TV-Series
Description
Hugh is a twenty-year-old university student and one of the part-time employees at Spirytus, a company specializing in legalized torture and interrogation. Among the main cast, he is the youngest member of the team. His decision to work at Spirytus is partly motivated by a desire to learn social skills, though he initially avoids interpersonal contact as much as possible. Physically, Hugh is described as being inhumanely beautiful, a trait that he finds so burdensome due to the negative attention it attracts that he deliberately hides his face behind a scarf. He has a serious demeanor, but is also characterized as kind and gentle-hearted, presenting a calm and professional contrast to some of his more eccentric colleagues.

A defining and paradoxical characteristic of Hugh is his phobia of blood. This specific weakness prevents him from using many traditional torture methods and forces him to approach his work in a unique way. Instead of techniques that cause bleeding, Hugh has become a specialist in non-bleeding interrogation methods, primarily water torture and the precise breaking of bones. This limitation has shaped his professional identity within the company, turning a personal disadvantage into a specialized skill set.

At the start of the series, Hugh is portrayed as nervous and inexperienced, requiring close guidance from his senior colleagues, the skilled interrogator Sero and the legendary torturer known as Supernova, Siu. As the story progresses, he undergoes a quiet but significant development. Through his job, he learns that his unusual beauty can be reframed as a professional asset, as the cognitive dissonance created by a beautiful face engaging in acts of torture can make the experience psychologically worse for the client. This realization helps him grow more confident in his role. His personal life connects directly to his professional one, as he uses his university studies to better understand his job, even discussing with his coworker Mike how their lives have improved since they began working in the field. His family is supportive of his career path, with his parents reportedly being proud of his decision to take advanced torture classes. Later in the season, Hugh begins to contemplate his long-term future, facing questions about his potential career trajectory as a professional torturer beyond his part-time position. His key relationships are with his fellow part-timers, including Sero, who acts as a careful senior, Siu, the living legend, and Mike, the aspiring novelist, as they navigate the darkly comedic and gruesome reality of their daily work together.
