Description
Haruka Yosugi is a fictional character from the anime and manga series Style of Hiroshi Nohara's LUNCH. She is a 20-year-old university student who makes her first appearance in the fifth chapter of the manga, which corresponds to the second part of the second episode in the anime adaptation. As a recurring character, Haruka works part-time jobs in various food service establishments, a decision she made in an attempt to manage her excessively high opinion of herself. The core of her character lies in this overpowering self-consciousness, which manifests not as confidence but as a deep-seated paranoia. She is extremely self-centered and prone to severe delusions of persecution, which causes her to constantly misinterpret the words and actions of those around her.

In the story, Haruka's primary role is a source of comedy through her dramatic misunderstandings involving Hiroshi Nohara, the series' protagonist. She first encounters Hiroshi while working at a hamburger restaurant, where she falsely believes he was showing romantic interest in her when he was actually looking at another female employee. From this point on, she becomes convinced that Hiroshi is a stalker who is relentlessly pursuing her. This delusion is reinforced every time they coincidentally meet, whether at her newest part-time job or at a restaurant where she is a customer. The irony of the situation is that Hiroshi remains completely unaware of her existence; he cannot remember her name or her face, and simply sees her as a strange young woman who frequently talks to herself.

Haruka's personality is vividly expressed through her physical reactions. When her paranoid fantasies take hold, she tends to writhe and squirm in anguish, twisting her body in strange, snake-like movements. This habit frequently causes her work to grind to a halt, much to the frustration of her employers. The anime adaptation amplifies her tendencies, showing her escaping into extravagant daydreams that go beyond simple paranoia. She vividly imagines herself in romantic scenarios with Hiroshi, from being pursued by him to imagining a sweet life together that includes being proposed to under fireworks or even joining a band. Her delusions cause her great distress, but she does not always seem entirely displeased by the romantic fantasies she constructs.

A key aspect of her relationships is the stark contrast between her perception and reality. While she is utterly convinced that Hiroshi harbors sinister intentions or romantic feelings for her, he is incapable of recognizing her as an individual. To Hiroshi, she is merely a recurring background figure. For most of the series, her surname is not disclosed, but it is eventually revealed in the episode titled The Style of T-Bone Steak. Despite her numerous attempts to correct her self-centered nature by working and interacting with the public, her character shows little development in overcoming her core flaw. She remains trapped in a cycle of self-delusion, and her frequent appearances across a wide range of episodes, including The Art of Omelette Rice, The Art of Squid Ink Pasta, The Art of Onigiri, and The Art of Tteokbokki, reinforce this unchanging comedic premise. No specific physical appearance or notable special abilities are described for the character.
