Description
Minato Narumiya is a high school student central to reviving his school's kyudo club. His fascination with kyudo ignited around age five during a shrine visit with his mother. Witnessing a competition, he was captivated by the sound of the bowstring after release, the *tsurune*, which his mother explained varied in beauty depending on the archer. This inspired him to pursue kyudo, and he secured his mother's promise to attend his future tournaments.
Tragedy struck in sixth grade. A traffic accident claimed his mother's life and left Minato with injuries scarring his left side. He consequently quit his kyudo training under instructor Kazuyoshi Saionji, despite having practiced for a year alongside his future rival, Shuu Fujiwara. Assuming significant household responsibilities due to his father's busy schedule, Minato managed chores and cooking.
He enrolled in Kirisaki Middle School with childhood friend Seiya Takehaya, reuniting with Shuu. The trio joined the kyudo club and excelled, earning spots in the boys' team for the Prefectural Tournament in their third year. During the finals, Minato experienced sudden target panic—a psychological block causing uncontrollable shaking and missed shots—costing his team the match. Persistent struggles with the condition led him to quit the club.
For high school, Minato chose Kazemai High School, a public institution closer to home with a nearly inactive kyudo club, avoiding Kirisaki. He intended to abandon kyudo entirely, citing household duties to decline invitations to the revived club. His resolve weakened after encountering Masaki Takigawa, a shrine priest and kyudo practitioner, whose graceful shooting reignited Minato's passion. He rejoined the sport, becoming a member of the Kazemai kyudo club.
Minato is reserved and withdrawn, traits stemming from his mother's death and target panic. He is serious and responsible, often proactively maintaining the school kyudojo. His demeanor contrasts with more exuberant individuals like Nanao Kisaragi and Ryouhei Yamanouchi, sometimes causing him to become flustered. Despite his calm exterior, he possesses a deep passion for kyudo and strong loyalty to friends. He exhibits sarcasm, particularly interacting with eccentric figures like Masaki, and has an overactive imagination making him susceptible to scary stories. He adores fluffy animals, like Seiya's dog Kuma and Masaki's owl Fuu.
Physically, he is of medium height with an average build, spiky black hair, large green eyes, and a prominent forehead. He typically wears his school uniform or a white kyudo hakama. Rumors suggest touching his forehead brings good luck.
In kyudo ability, Minato is a developing talent. Initially taught by Saionji, his fascination with others' shooting styles leads him to evolve his technique. Overcoming target panic—aided by Masaki, Seiya, and teammates—he regains consistent shooting ability. His focus shifts beyond hitting targets; he strives to shoot with full conviction, aiming to create a beautiful *tsurune*.
His relationships are pivotal: Seiya, a protective childhood friend, carries guilt over the accident and supports Minato intensely. Shuu Fujiwara, a rival since childhood, views Minato as a motivator for self-improvement. Masaki serves as a mentor, helping Minato heal through kyudo; Masaki's grandfather was the elderly archer who inspired Minato at the shrine. Kaito Onogi initially clashes with Minato over differing kyudo attitudes but eventually accepts him as a teammate.
Minato's hobbies include cycling, river outings with Seiya and Kuma during summer, and childhood bug hunting and tree climbing. He prefers mountains over the sea, lists tamagoyaki as his favorite food, dislikes myoga, and would choose to travel to the future rather than the past.
