Description
Ai Yasumi is the protagonist of the anime Draw This, Then Die!, a first-year high school student who lives on the Tokyo island of Izu Oshima. Her life revolves around a deep and unwavering love for reading manga, with her personal bible being the fictional series Robota and Pokota by an author named Hoshino Zero. Living on the remote island, her world is relatively small, but her passion for stories is immense.

While she begins as a dedicated reader, a specific incident triggers a shift within her, leading her to seriously consider creating manga for the first time. This decision forms the core of her journey, as she steps from the role of an observer into that of a creator. Her personality is defined by an incredible work ethic and a positive, proactive attitude toward this new challenge. She is characterized by her ability to find joy in small discoveries, eagerly incorporate new techniques and lessons she learns, and constantly strive to improve and shine brighter as an artist. This enthusiasm is a driving force that makes her growth compelling to witness.

Ai’s primary motivation is her newfound desire to draw manga, a pursuit sparked by the event that pushes her from simply loving stories to wanting to tell her own. The narrative follows her as she confronts the realities of this ambition, capturing both the pain and the joy that come with the creative process. Her role in the story is that of an aspiring artist learning the fundamentals of her craft, and her journey is heavily influenced by the people she encounters. Key relationships include her Japanese language teacher, Rei Teshima, who offers strict guidance to students passionate about manga, and her classmates, such as the talented artist Kokoro Fujimori and another amateur creator named Hikaru Sekiryu, who together form a community of young creators. She also has an imaginary friend named Pokota, a character from her favorite manga who serves as a companion and source of inspiration.

As the story progresses, Ai undergoes significant development as she learns to draw and tell stories. Her initial naive love for manga evolves into a deeper, more complex understanding of the hard work and dedication required to create it. Her notable abilities are not supernatural but grounded in her personal qualities: an immense capacity for hard work, an optimistic and eager mindset that allows her to learn from small discoveries, and a genuine passion that fuels her relentless effort to improve.
