Description
Ranga is a major supporting character in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and appears in the film Tears of the Azure Sea as the loyal wolf companion of the protagonist, Rimuru Tempest. He comes from the Fang Wolf tribe and is the son of the tribe's former leader. After being named by Rimuru, he evolved from an ordinary monster beast into a divine Star Wolf, and in time he rose to become the Star Nova Demon Wolf King, a form comparable to a Fenrir. Ranga leads the Star Wolf Clan and holds a high position among the executives of the Jura-Tempest Federation, the nation founded by Rimuru. Among those executives, he is the only one who does not take a humanoid form, remaining a massive wolf with a powerful build and a prominent horn on his forehead.

In personality, Ranga is proud, loyal, and protective. He carries himself with a strong sense of honor and duty, often taking the initiative to defend his friends and allies. Toward Rimuru he displays many dog-like traits: he wags his tail when happy, licks his master, stays close to his side, and constantly seeks to please him. He also has a playful side that emerges during interactions with other members of Rimuru's circle. His main motivation is devotion to Rimuru and the community of Tempest. He is driven to grow stronger so that he can better serve his master, and he shows fierce determination whenever his abilities are tested.

In the story of Tears of the Azure Sea, Ranga accompanies Rimuru and the others during their visit to a resort island, an outing that leads into a crisis involving the Azure Sea and the underwater kingdom of Kaien. He acts as Rimuru's personal guardian and battle mount, carrying his master through dangerous situations and using his speed and storm powers in clashes with aquatic enemies, including the great water dragon and the clones it summons. When the priestess Yura is caught in the chaos, Ranga works together with Gobta, rushing with him into a cyclone to save her by relying on their coordinated fighting style, which is described as a fusion ability. He is also part of the group that follows Yura back to Kaien, accompanying Rimuru, Shion, and Gobta as the situation around the water dragon unfolds. Throughout the film he demonstrates his value as both transport and fighter, adapting his land-based abilities to the unfamiliar marine setting and helping shield new allies as well as his usual companions.

Ranga's most important relationship is with Rimuru, who functions as his master and mentor. The bond between them is one of deep mutual trust, and Ranga's evolution and sense of purpose are closely tied to the name Rimuru gave him. He also shares a strong working relationship with Gobta, with the two fighting side by side in the film, and he cooperates with other Tempest executives such as Benimaru and Shion during the battles at sea. His leadership of the Star Wolf Clan reflects his role as a figure other wolves follow, and in the events of the movie his actions help connect the land-based forces of Tempest with the people of the sea.

In terms of development, Ranga has grown from a wild creature of the Fang Wolf tribe into a legendary divine beast through the naming and evolution granted by Rimuru. His power and reputation increased steadily, and by the time of the film he stands as one of the strongest beings in Rimuru's inner circle. The aquatic challenges of the story push him to apply his storm abilities in new ways, and his willingness to protect people beyond his own pack shows a broadening sense of duty shaped by Rimuru's ideals.

Ranga's notable abilities include Black Lightning, a powerful ranged electric attack that can strike multiple enemies, and Storm of Destruction, a devastating combined assault that draws on his tempest nature and is regarded as a derivative of more advanced techniques. He possesses the unique skill Demon Wolf's King, which gives him exceptional tactical awareness and combat instincts. Through Shadow Motion, he can dive into and travel through shadows, lurk within Rimuru's shadow while absorbing magicules to strengthen himself, and carry up to two people on his back. His sheer size allows him to create small whirlwinds simply by wagging his tail. Defensively, he has the ability to nullify physical damage entirely, is immune to natural effects, resists status changes, and holds strong resistance against spiritual attacks, making him a formidable guardian and a versatile asset in combat.
