Description
Kang Horyang, also known as Kosuke, is a Regular who appears during the Workshop Battle arc on the thirtieth floor. He was originally one of the first human subjects of the Workshop’s experiments to create Living Ignition Weapons, alongside Beniamino Cassano. Born in the middle area of the Tower, he was sold to the Workshop and subjected to brutal experimentation. Out of tens of thousands of children, only he and Cassano survived. They grew up together in the Workshop and viewed the researcher Sophia Amae as a mother figure. Horyang was formerly called Beniamino Ilmar and was once a member of FUG before becoming an E‑rank Regular.

He is a massive, brooding man with a distinct mark floating above his right shoulder that, under normal circumstances, makes him resemble a one‑winged angel. He is known by the nickname Devil of the Right Arm because his right arm once contained a powerful demonic entity. During the Hand of Arlen incident, Cassano extracted this entity, stripping Horyang of that power and leaving him in a weakened state. This betrayal drives his personal quest to find Cassano and settle the past.

Horyang’s personality is melancholic and introspective. He is usually quiet and reserved but shows fierce loyalty to those he considers comrades. He carries deep trauma from his time as an experiment and the loss of his brother figure, yet he is not inherently aggressive and will act decisively only when necessary. His motivations center on confronting Cassano and reclaiming a sense of closure.

In the story of the Workshop Battle, Horyang joins the team led by Ja Wangnan, which includes Akraptor, Prince, and later the group surrounding Jyu Viole Grace (the alias of Bam). He shares his past with his new teammates and asks Viole about the source of his power, sensing a connection between their abilities. When he learns that Cassano is present, he leaves to face him alone, but he is overpowered. This defeat triggers a powerful protective reaction from Viole, who unleashes a surge of shinsu to save him. Horyang also reunites with Sophia Amae during the battle, a meeting that offers him a moment of comfort.

His key relationships include Cassano, whom he once regarded as a brother but now sees as a target; Sophia Amae, his surrogate mother; and his teammates, especially Viole, Wangnan, and the others, who help him move beyond his past.

As a Spear Bearer, Horyang uses shinsu to enhance his spear techniques. Even after losing the demon in his right arm, he remains a capable fighter, relying on his experience, physical strength, and understanding of shinsu gained from his time as a Living Ignition Weapon. Through the events of the Workshop Battle, he begins to reconcile with his traumatic history and finds a renewed sense of belonging among his allies.
