Description
Lucoa, whose true name is Quetzalcoatl, is a former dragon goddess and a supporting character in the anime Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. Her background originates in a parallel world where she was once worshiped as a deity before losing her divine status centuries ago. The cause was a scandal that occurred after she unknowingly drank cursed alcohol, which led to her being exiled. Despite this fall from godhood, she remains immensely powerful and is regarded as the strongest dragon in the series, far exceeding the abilities of others such as Tohru and Fafnir.

In terms of personality, Lucoa is consistently calm, gentle, and carefree. She rarely becomes angry and almost always wears a relaxed smile, a trait that masks her ancient wisdom. She is nurturing and kind-hearted, often offering experienced advice to younger dragons and humans alike. Her approach to life is hedonistic and freedom-loving, yet she respects the choices and emotions of others and avoids imposing her will. She dislikes conflict and sees fighting as pointless, preferring to observe situations from a distance and intervene only when necessary. Her behavior can appear provocative, as she frequently wears revealing clothing and makes teasing gestures, but this is presented as part of her confident and uninhibited nature rather than malice.

Her motivations center on maintaining a peaceful existence in the human world and preserving the balance between her original world and Earth. She values her connections with others, especially her old friend Tohru, and seeks to protect and guide those she cares about. She does not seek to dominate or draw attention to her power, instead choosing to blend into daily life while remaining a stabilizing presence among the dragons.

Lucoa's role in the story is multifaceted. She functions as a buffer between the chaotic energy of the other dragons and the mundane human world, often softening tense situations with her easygoing demeanor. She becomes the familiar of a young elementary school student named Shouta Magatsuchi after he accidentally performs a demon summoning ritual. She responds to his call and is recognized as his familiar, moving into the attic of his house. Through this arrangement, she helps him control his budding magical abilities and shields him from various dangers, acting as a self-appointed guardian. Her presence in his life adds a comedic and nurturing dynamic to the narrative.

Key relationships include her sisterly camaraderie with Tohru, with whom she shares a long history and a mutual respect. She offers Tohru advice on living among humans and supports her without being overbearing. With Shouta, she is doting and protective, often treating him like a younger brother despite her overly affectionate methods that frequently embarrass him. She is also close to Kanna, treating her like an aunt might, joining in playful activities and encouraging her innocent curiosity. With Fafnir, she enjoys teasing him about his gloomy demeanor and obsessive gaming, though their banter is underpinned by mutual respect for each other's ancient power. She interacts pleasantly with the human character Kobayashi, who initially labels her a pervert due to her appearance and behavior, but Lucoa remains unfazed.

Her development throughout the series is subtle. She does not undergo a dramatic character arc because she already possesses a stable, mature worldview. Instead, her growth is shown through her deepening bonds with the human world, particularly with Shouta, and her increasing willingness to engage in everyday life rather than simply observe from a distance. She learns to adapt her divine perspective to accommodate the small joys and challenges of human existence, reinforcing her role as a bridge between the two worlds.

Notable abilities include a vast array of magical powers that surpass those of other dragons. She can teleport, repair objects, manipulate memories, reverse time, and even rewrite reality itself. She is also associated with domains that in mythology might correspond to agriculture, lightning, love, and creation. Despite this immense power, she rarely uses it aggressively and prefers peaceful resolutions. Her true form is that of a feathered serpent, reflecting her mythological inspiration, though she usually appears in the human world as a tall woman with blonde hair, heterochromia with one green eye and one dark-pupiled yellow eye, and a curvy figure. She typically dresses in a black tank top, short jeans, a red baseball cap, and knee-high socks, a style that accentuates her uninhibited personality.
