Description
Colette Loire is a central figure in the story of Wistoria: Wand and Sword, serving as a student at the Regarden Magical Academy and the closest friend to the protagonist, Will Serfort. She is a young woman defined by a dramatic personal transformation from a state of despair to one of kindness and loyalty, with her past and her unwavering support for Will being the key drivers of her actions.

Standing at 164 centimeters tall, Colette is a sixteen-year-old with orange hair cut in a bob, framed by bangs that sweep across her forehead. Her large, expressive eyes are the same orange color as her hair, and she is typically seen wearing a pair of rectangular glasses. Her standard academy attire consists of a white blouse with gold buttons, a black tie, a black pleated skirt with white stripes, and a distinctive black cape with a gold lining, fastened at the neck by a purple gem. Her current bright and approachable appearance, however, is a stark contrast to how she looked in her first year, when she had messy, unkempt hair and dull, lifeless eyes, reflecting her troubled state of mind at the time.

Colette’s personality is marked by a profound shift brought about by friendship. In the past, she was cold, isolated, and actively pushed others away, showing little concern for her own well-being or appearance. Her mindset was so dark that she was indifferent to the prospect of death, entering the dungeon with a desire to perish in peace. After meeting and befriending Will Serfort, she changed completely, blossoming into a cheerful, gentle, and well-mannered young woman. She is deeply supportive and protective of her friends, particularly Will, and is known for her generous spirit and humility. While she dislikes conflict and tries to stop fights, she is fiercely loyal and will not hesitate to stand up for Will when he is insulted or looked down upon by others. Despite her outward confidence, she harbors a deep-seated discomfort with being treated as special, which is why she dislikes her unwanted nickname, "Princess of the Earth," and the reverent attention she receives as the young heir of her noble house.

Colette’s background is central to her character. She is the only daughter and rightful heir of the Loire family, a once-illustrious noble house famous for producing powerful earth mages, some of whom even reached the rank of Magia Vander. By the time of the story, however, the family has fallen from grace, a decline that weighs heavily on Colette as its heir. Her life took a decisive turn during a specific incident in her first year at the academy, an event which led to her friendship with Will Serfort. This relationship gave her hope and a reason to change, causing her to abandon her gloomy past and embrace a brighter future. After graduating, she joins the Earth Magic Faction in the Tower, a group composed mostly of older, seasoned mages, where her youth and lineage make her stand out in a way she finds tiring.

Her primary role in the story is as Will’s most loyal companion and defender. She is one of the very few people at the academy who does not discriminate against Will for his complete inability to use magic, instead holding him in high regard and constantly supporting his efforts. Her motivations are deeply rooted in her own past; having known what it feels like to be at rock bottom and still persevere, she recognizes the same struggle in Will and is determined to stand by him. This fierce loyalty is fueled by her romantic feelings for him, making her both supportive and, at times, jealous of those she perceives as rivals for his affection.

Her key relationships are complex and largely defined by their connection to Will. Will Serfort is her first love and the most important person in her life, the one who saved her from her darkest period. Her feelings for him are deep, though she is aware that his true love is Elfaria Albis Serfort. This knowledge creates a mixture of jealousy and animosity toward Elfaria, whom Colette also blames for many of the hardships Will endures. She shares a similar perspective with Rosti Nauman, a boy who also harbors feelings for Will, creating an odd camaraderie between them as rivals who both wish to protect him from what they see as Elfaria's negative influence. Colette also has a prior acquaintance with Sion Ulster, as both come from noble families. While Sion is attracted to Colette, she is critical of his arrogant behavior toward Will, which strains their relationship.

Throughout the narrative, Colette’s development is presented as a completed arc, showing the consequences of her transformation rather than a slow, ongoing change. She has already evolved from a suicidal, isolated girl into a bright and caring friend. Her ongoing struggles revolve around managing her present relationships, dealing with the legacy of her family name, and navigating her unrequited love for Will while remaining his steadfast ally. She is shown to be imaginative and occasionally prone to worry, but her core identity as a loyal and courageous friend remains constant.

Regarding her notable abilities, Colette is a prodigiously talented Earth Mage, recognized as one of the top students in her year, and she has proven her skill by reaching the 7th level of the dungeon. Her magical repertoire includes a family bloodline technique known as Loire Seek, which allows her to perform versatile feats. She can create a stone gauntlet named Loire Seek Goltet around an arm for enhanced strength, summon multiple blades from the ground called Loire Seek Argeorath to use as projectiles, and even forge a massive rock sword for an ally to wield. Another of her key abilities is golem summoning and control, a skill tied to her family's historical connection with dwarves. She also possesses practical skills like Search magic, which allows her to detect people and monsters within a certain radius, and can cast other spells such as Stear Viola and Frubas Julier. Her primary magic gear consists of the Earthsoul Wand and a Bloodseal Bracelet, the latter of which has an unknown purpose. While incredibly powerful, her main weakness is a lack of precision in her magical control.
