Description
Finral Roulacase is a nobleman of the House Vaude and a member of the Black Bull squad of the Magic Knights. As the eldest son of his family, he was born in the village of Tota within the Clover Kingdom. Following the death of his mother when he was very young, his father remarried and had a second son, Langris. Finral is the half-brother of Langris Vaude, who serves as the vice-captain of the Golden Dawn squad.

Finral is known for his extremely flirtatious and womanizing personality, often becoming easily distracted by women and asking them out almost immediately upon meeting them. This tendency is so pronounced that it frequently interferes with his duties as a Magic Knight. He is also quite excitable and reacts to situations in an exaggerated, comedic fashion, particularly when danger arises. Early in the story, he displays a cowardly side, often complaining and trying to avoid perilous situations where he might be hurt or killed. Despite his seniority within the Black Bulls, he is often treated poorly by his comrades, which frustrates him, though he insists on his status as their senior.

Finral's personality is a direct result of his upbringing. As a child, he was a more earnest individual, but he was constantly overshadowed by his younger half-brother Langris, who possessed a much greater aptitude for offensive spatial magic. Being compared unfavorably to Langris led to Finral being cast aside by his family, causing him to develop a persona focused on having fun and running away from his feelings of inferiority. However, beneath this frivolous exterior, he is gentle, kind, and values his comrades greatly. He is a realist who accepts that he cannot surpass his brother in combat, but he finds a new sense of purpose in using his unique magic to support his squad.

Finral's primary motivation evolves throughout the narrative. Initially content to simply avoid conflict and enjoy himself, a pivotal battle against the elf Vetto at the Seabed Temple inspires him to dedicate himself to making the Black Bulls the strongest squad, rather than focusing on his own personal strength. Later, after the conflict with the elves, he resolves to become a man worthy of his fiancée, Finesse Calmreich, the next head of the House Vaude. This includes actively trying to control his flirting habits and vying to become the next head of his own family.

Within the story, Finral serves as the primary support and transportation unit for the Black Bulls. His spatial magic is incredibly convenient for moving allies across vast distances, and he is often referred to as the squad's "chariot" or "transporter" by his comrades and others. His role is to enable the offensive powerhouses of the group, like Captain Yami Sukehiro and Asta, by positioning them perfectly in battle. Finral's Key relationship is with Captain Yami, who constantly orders him around and calls him names like "chariot" or "errand boy". Despite the rough treatment, Finral is fiercely loyal to Yami and the Black Bulls. Another crucial relationship is with Asta, whom Finral calls his "strongest partner". Asta's never-give-up attitude inspires Finral, and their abilities complement each other perfectly: Finral's space magic overcomes Asta's lack of mobility, while Asta's anti-magic provides the offensive power that Finral lacks.

Finral's relationship with his brother Langris is a central source of conflict and development. Langris, a prodigy in offensive spatial magic, looks down on Finral. This dynamic comes to a head during the Royal Knights Selection Exam, where Langris critically injures Finral. When the elf Ratri reincarnates into Langris's body, Finral must confront his brother to save him. Using his superior spatial control, Finral manages to get close and punch the berserk Langris, calling for him to return. After the elf arc, Finral and Langris begin to reconcile, and their relationship slowly improves.

Finral's development is marked by a gradual but significant increase in courage and resolve. He transitions from a fearful noble who ran away from his family to a reliable Magic Knight who willingly risks his life for his squad and his brother. His skills also develop; while he never gains offensive magic, his speed, accuracy, and creativity with his support spells grow considerably. He learns to use his magic not just for escape or convenience, but as a tactical weapon to protect his allies and control the battlefield.

Finral's notable ability is his rare Spatial Magic. The primary limitation is that he must see or have previously seen his destination to open a portal. His two signature spells are Fallen Angel's Gate, which creates a portal to connect two spaces, and Fallen Angel's Wingbeat, which launches a homing sphere of spatial magic that forcibly teleports whatever it touches to another location. He cannot create any form of attack magic, a limitation that shapes his entire supportive fighting style. After training in the Heart Kingdom, he improves his abilities with Mana Method, further enhancing his speed and control.
