Description
Comoli Harcourt is an ensign, or second lieutenant, in the space forces of the Principality of Zeon. As an elite graduate of the military academy, she serves as a trusted aide and adjutant to her superior officer, Colonel Challia Bull, aboard the Zeon warship Sodon.
Comoli presents a distinctive appearance for a military officer, notable for her bold fashion sense that includes striking blue eyeshadow and a casual, almost gal-like style that sets her apart from her more traditionally uniformed colleagues. Her personality is a blend of professional diligence and youthful directness. She is a practical and efficient officer who adheres to regulations, and she frequently finds herself exasperated by Challia Bull's unpredictable, nonchalant, and sometimes rule-bending leadership style. Despite this frustration, she is deeply loyal and often worries about his well-being, even after he commits severe acts like the assassination of Kycilia Zabi.
Underneath her sometimes sarcastic and brusque exterior, Comoli is a fundamentally kind and compassionate person. She is often the first to express concern for the welfare of her comrades, showing particular care for her peer, Ensign Xavier Olivette, and later for the civilian pilot Amate Yuzuriha. When Amate is detained on the Sodon, Comoli is put in charge of her. While initially mocking Amate's naivety, Comoli quickly warms up to her, accepting the nickname Comolin, and shows her concern by insisting she wear proper pilot safety gear and by lending her personal tracksuits. Her interactions with colleagues are marked by a preference for informal, friendly language, such as using the suffix kun, which underscores her belief that personal bonds are as important as military hierarchy.
Motivated by a strong sense of duty and a desire to protect those around her, Comoli plays a key role in managing information and tactical support on the Sodon's bridge. Her defining internal conflict centers on the concept of Newtypes. She is pragmatically skeptical of the myth and potential dangers of Newtype abilities and related technologies like the psycommu system, and she is not afraid to voice her doubts to Challia Bull. However, this skepticism is challenged by her own experiences. Her latent Newtype abilities allow her to sense extraordinary events, such as the arrival of the RX-78-2 Gundam from another reality, which she identifies as the White Devil, and to perceive the phenomenon known as the sound of Lalah. This contradiction between her rational mind and her innate sensitivity is a core part of her character.
Throughout the Zeon civil war and the incursion of otherworldly forces, Comoli proves her value with her calm judgment under pressure and her immediate recognition of a true Zeknova, an energy transfer from another side of reality. By the story's end, as a new leadership takes over Zeon, Comoli is seen watching the changing world from a distance alongside Challia and Xavier, having survived the conflict and solidified her role as a steadfast, caring, and uniquely grounded member of the Sodon's crew.
