Description
Kaiju No. 10 is an immensely powerful and highly intelligent identified kaiju that first appears as a major antagonist before undergoing a significant transformation into a unique weapon for the Defense Force. The character is a creation of Kaiju No. 9, serving as a prototype for later, more advanced kaiju models. Its introduction marks a dramatic escalation of the threat facing the Third Division, as it demonstrates not only overwhelming strength but also the rare ability to speak human language and lead other kaiju.

In terms of personality, Kaiju No. 10 is defined by a profound and almost singular love for battle. It is a prideful and ruthless individual who seeks out the strongest possible opponents, whether human or kaiju, purely for the thrill of combat. This warrior-like spirit drives it to taunt its rivals and prolong fights, and its pride is such that it refuses to ever truly admit defeat, preferring to call even a crushing loss a draw. While it is a confident and effective leader, capable of commanding a pack of normally solitary Wyvern-type kaiju through sheer force of will, its primary motivation is its own excitement, not loyalty to its creator, Kaiju No. 9.

The character's role in the story begins with its assault on Tachikawa Base, where it single-handedly challenges the Third Division. During this raid, it identifies Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina as the strongest warrior present and engages him in a ferocious duel. The battle pushes Hoshina to his limits, with Kaiju No. 10 showcasing its terrifying abilities, including near-instant regeneration and a dramatic gigantification that increases its power significantly. Though ultimately defeated through the combined efforts of Hoshina, Captain Mina Ashiro, and Kikoru Shinomiya, its core is not completely destroyed, and its severed head remains conscious. Instead of being a simple monster, this event marks the beginning of its most unique role. Imprisoned by the Defense Force, it makes a surprising demand of Hoshina: to be weaponized and worn by him, driven by a desire to experience the thrill of fighting alongside him again. This leads to Kaiju No. 10 becoming the first-ever sentient Numbers Weapon, a dark-grey combat suit that retains its own will and consciousness.

This transformation forges the most significant relationship in its development: its symbiotic partnership with Soshiro Hoshina. Initially, their partnership is fraught with difficulty, as Kaiju No. 10's direct and brutish fighting style clashes with Hoshina's more tactical approach. However, they gradually learn to synchronize, with Hoshina occasionally ceding control to No. 10. Their bond deepens into a unique camaraderie, bickering like an old married couple but cooperating flawlessly in battle. In later fights, No. 10 actively supports Hoshina, sacrificing parts of itself to protect him and encouraging him to embrace the joy of combat, helping him reach new levels of power. Its development is a journey from a terrifying enemy to a powerful, albeit grudging, ally whose immense battle lust is channeled into a deadly partnership with its former adversary.

Kaiju No. 10 possesses a formidable array of abilities. Physically, it stands about five meters tall in its base form but can use gigantification to grow to roughly 25 meters, at which point its fortitude level rises from 8.3 to 9.0. Its body is covered in a durable, armor-like carapace, and it boasts immense strength, capable of shattering buildings with a single punch or even destructive shockwaves with a flick of its fingers. Its combat speed is incredibly high, with Hoshina comparing its flurry of blows to a meteor. It possesses powerful regenerative capabilities, allowing it to reattach limbs or heal from severe wounds. A unique and fearsome power is its ability to generate eyes all over its body when it grows larger, eliminating any blind spots. It can also fire powerful projectile attacks and, most notably, exert control over other kaiju, using a sonar-like signal to command them in battle. Even when reduced to just a head, it retained enough power to attempt to use the remaining wyvern-types as a massive suicide bomb. As a Numbers Weapon, these powers are channeled into the combat suit, granting Hoshina its immense strength, speed, and regenerative properties, with the tail serving as an additional limb that can move independently of the wearer.
