Description
Ewen Egeburg is a student at the prestigious Eden Academy and a close associate of Damian Desmond, belonging to the same Cecile Hall and class. As the heir to the Egeburg family, his friendship with Damian and their mutual friend Emile Elman began in nursery school, solidifying his position within Damian's inner circle before they even enrolled in their primary education.

In terms of appearance, Ewen is a young boy with light skin and an elongated head shape. His most distinctive feature is his blond hair, which is typically styled in a high, slicked-back manner that creates a silhouette often compared to a peanut or a banana. When his hair is down, it reaches approximately chin-length. He has small, square-shaped eyes and, like all male students, wears the standard Eden Academy uniform, which consists of a black button-up shirt, black shorts, long white crew socks, and black shoes.

Ewen's personality is defined by his deep and genuine loyalty to Damian Desmond. He consistently refers to Damian as "Lord Damian" and performs daily gestures of fealty, such as carrying Damian's school bag for him during their morning commute. However, his friendship is not merely sycophantic; he demonstrates a sincere care for Damian's well-being, showing concern when Damian is hurt or pushing himself too hard academically and socially. This genuine nature extends to offering candid advice, such as suggesting Damian needs to work on his vocabulary or improve his weaker academic subjects like language arts. While often seen following Damian's lead, Ewen also exhibits a mischievous and playful side, most notably when he and Emile chase Damian with an earthworm after learning of his fear. Initially, he can appear arrogant and dismissive towards those he perceives as lower class, particularly Anya Forger, whom he has labeled a "peasant" and sought to protect Damian from.

Ewen's primary motivation is supporting Damian, whom he genuinely believes has the potential to make Ostania a better place in the future. His loyalty is not born of self-interest but out of a true belief in his friend's character. Beyond his devotion to Damian, Ewen harbors a significant personal passion for space exploration, and his ultimate dream is to become a cosmonaut, driven by what he calls the "romance of space adventure".

Within the story, Ewen serves as a supporting character who primarily appears alongside Damian and Emile. His role is to be a constant presence in Damian's school life, participating in various events such as the dodgeball training camp, competing for the "Pastry of Knowledge" macarons, and reacting to the academic achievements and social rivalries within their class. He is part of the group that strives for the prestigious Imperial Scholar status.

His relationships are central to his character. With Damian Desmond, he shares a bond of deep respect and friendship, acting as both a devoted follower and a trusted confidant who is not afraid to tease him. Ewen and Emile Elman are nearly inseparable, functioning as a pair who work together to support and protect Damian, share in his successes and failures, and engage in childish play like pillow fights in their dormitory. With Anya Forger, his relationship is generally contentious, having soured from the moment Anya punched Damian during their school orientation. He is often disgusted by her friendship with the wealthy Becky Blackbell and mocks her for her lower social standing and academic performance. However, their animosity is briefly set aside when Ewen discovers that Anya also shares his enthusiasm for space adventures, leading to a moment where they happily chat and role-play as astronauts together. He maintains a similarly poor relationship with Becky Blackbell due to her alliance with Anya.

Ewen experiences subtle but notable development throughout the series. While initially appearing as a one-dimensional follower, his depth is revealed through his genuine care for Damian's health and reputation, even going against Damian's wishes to protect him. He demonstrates selflessness by intentionally getting himself punished so he can accompany Damian during chores. On one occasion, when he felt Damian might be forming a more significant friendship elsewhere, Ewen experienced jealousy, which he visualized as "Mr. Buzz," a feeling he had to work through with the help of a school custodian, ultimately leading to reconciliation. In a defining moment of instinctive loyalty, Ewen once leapt into deep water to save Damian, even though he himself could not swim, showing that his devotion overrides his sense of self-preservation.

As for notable abilities, Ewen is noted to be good at explaining things in a convincing manner, such as when he quickly reported to a teacher how Anya had punched Damian. He is academically inclined enough to identify his own and Damian's weak points, suggesting a focus on studying language arts to improve their scores. While not an outstanding athlete, he is willing to train hard, as seen when he practiced for the interclass dodgeball match and blocked a ball to protect Damian. His most unique trait is his knowledge of space exploration, a subject he is very passionate about and well-versed in.
