Description
Ran Haitani is a major figure in the later conflicts of Tokyo Revengers and is best known as the older brother of Rindo Haitani, with the two forming the infamous Haitani Brothers. He is a tall and lanky young man with pale skin, violet eyes, and long dark hair styled into a braided ponytail with blond sections and matching blond eyebrows. He wears earrings and has a tattoo on the left side of his back. Ran belongs to the S-62 generation, a group of delinquents who bonded in their youth and later rose to high positions in several of the story's most powerful gangs.

Ran and Rindo grew up in the Roppongi district, an area heavily marked by criminal activity, and they were raised in an environment shaped by violence. Their reputation began early, as at age thirteen they fought the leader and vice-leader of Max Maniacs, which was then considered the strongest gang in Tokyo, in an event known as the Roppongi Battle of the Ashes. Ran defeated the leader with a single kick and beat the vice-leader so severely that the injuries later proved fatal. After that incident, the brothers effectively controlled Roppongi without belonging to any gang and could summon around a hundred followers with a single shout. They were eventually sent to a juvenile detention center under a charge related to the deadly beating, and there they met the rest of the S-62 generation, including Izana Kurokawa and Kakucho. After their release, they helped establish the Tenjiku gang under Izana's leadership, with Ran becoming one of its Four Heavenly Kings, a high-ranking officer title. After Tenjiku was defeated, the brothers went on to serve other groups and eventually joined Rokuhara Tandai, where Ran became the gang's Number 2.

Ran's personality is cool, clever, and calculating. He is stylish, sharp-minded, and has a strong desire to be in charge. His circle of trust is very small, and he holds genuine respect for only a few people, which contributes to his indifference toward others in battle. He is comfortable using underhanded strategies and has little concern for the severity of the injuries he causes. A distinctive quirk is that Ran is nearsighted, so he tends to stand extremely close, roughly one centimeter away, when speaking with someone, which others often misinterpret as flirtation or intimidation. He also takes great care of his appearance and is known to visit beauty salons regularly to maintain his look.

Ran's motivations center on strength, control, and loyalty to the few people he considers important, particularly his younger brother. He is willing to follow strong leaders and to throw himself into the gang conflicts that define his world. In an alternate timeline where he becomes a high-ranking executive of the criminal organization Bonten, his personality takes a much darker turn, and he is portrayed as remorseless and even pleased by violence. His development across the story is not a path toward redemption; he remains a violent and ambitious figure who moves from one powerful gang to another. By his final appearances, he is shown defeated and diminished, a once-sharp fighter who was used as a tool by larger forces and never truly grew beyond being Rindo's other half.

In the War of the Three Titans Arc, which centers on the three-way struggle between Brahman, Rokuhara Tandai, and the Kanto Manji Gang, Ran is one of the central combatants. As Rokuhara Tandai's Number 2, he fights alongside Rindo and takes part in major battles against the rival organizations. The Haitani Brothers are regarded as among the strongest delinquents in the story, and Ran's fighting style often incorporates weapons, including a steel baton and, on one occasion, a brick. His combat ability was established early, as shown by his one-on-one victories during the Roppongi Battle of the Ashes, and he is noted for his excellent physical speed and conditioning. His influence extends beyond personal fighting, as his reputation and connections allow him to mobilize large numbers of followers quickly.

The most important relationship in Ran's life is with his younger brother Rindo, with whom he operates almost as a single unit and whose teamwork is central to their effectiveness. He also shares a lasting bond with the other members of the S-62 generation, especially Izana Kurokawa, under whom he served in Tenjiku, and Kakucho. In battle, Ran and Rindo clash with opponents such as Takashi Mitsuya and Hakkai Shiba, and in later conflicts they face Haruchiyo Sanzu. These encounters highlight both Ran's willingness to fight ruthlessly and the limitations of his approach when he meets opponents who can match or overpower him.
