Description
Haruka Sakura is the protagonist of the story and a first-year student at Furin High School, where he is enrolled in class 1-1. He is fifteen years old, born on April 1st, and stands 169 centimeters tall with a weight of 59 kilograms. His physical appearance is highly distinctive, featuring hair that is split in color with the right side being black and the left side white, as well as heterochromia in his eyes—one dark in color and the other a bright, amber-like hue. This striking look, which he has had since childhood, often leads to him being compared to a cat.

The core of Sakura’s motivation stems from a past defined by ostracism and loneliness. Because of his unconventional appearance, he was frequently an outcast and found it very difficult to trust others. He moved to the town of Makochi with a singular goal in mind: to attend the notoriously rowdy Furin High School and fight his way to the top, believing that by becoming the strongest, he could prove his own worth. He lives alone in an apartment, a situation that has fostered his fierce independence but also his feelings of isolation.

Personality-wise, Sakura is brash, straightforward, and often aggressive, possessing the typical demeanor of a delinquent. He is an avid fighter who loves to challenge strong opponents. However, this tough exterior masks a deeply vulnerable and surprisingly principled individual. He has a powerful, almost obsessive, sense of justice and despises what he considers cowardly or weak behavior, such as bullying those who cannot defend themselves or using a title to intimidate others. He frequently declares that freedom is only for those with the strength to claim it and that without power, a person cannot be true to themselves. Paradoxically, he is also incredibly uncomfortable with kindness and gratitude. Having been rejected for so long, he does not know how to process positive attention and often becomes flustered, blushes, or pushes people away when they try to help him, a trait that has led to him being described as a tsundere. He is also exceptionally sensitive to matters of romance, to the point where simply seeing a male and female classmate walking together can cause him to panic and blush.

Upon arriving at Furin High, Sakura expects to find a ruthless hierarchy of bullies. Instead, he discovers that the students, who call themselves Bofurin, act as a kind of unofficial town watch, using their strength to protect the people of Makochi from outside threats. This revelation forces him to confront his own worldview. Throughout the story, he is gradually integrated into the group, and his key relationships are instrumental to his development. He forms a close bond with his classmates Akihiko Nirei and Kyotaro Sugishita, and he learns to rely on other powerful first-years like Hayato Suo and Taiga Tsugeura, as well as the seniors who lead the school, such as Hajime Umemiya. These characters do not lecture him but instead show him through their actions what it means to fight for others. In turn, Sakura becomes the first-year grade captain, a role that forces him to look beyond his own ambitions.

As the story progresses, Sakura undergoes significant development. While he enters the school as a lone wolf who insists on shouldering every burden by himself, he slowly learns to accept support and to trust his comrades. He begins to understand that true strength is not just about winning a fight, but about protecting others and allowing oneself to be vulnerable. In a pivotal moment, he admits to his friends that he cannot carry everything alone and asks them to share his burden, a request that marks a complete reversal from his initial isolation.

In terms of abilities, Sakura is an exceptionally gifted and natural fighter. His primary skill lies in his remarkable flexibility and acrobatic agility, which he uses to perform feats like wall-jumping between buildings, allowing him to attack from unpredictable angles. He possesses superhuman physical characteristics, including enhanced stamina and pain tolerance. His fighting style is described as being highly adaptable, with opponents noting that his movements become progressively lighter and faster as a fight continues, demonstrating a form of accelerated development. He also seems to have heightened senses and awareness, having stated he can perceive events without seeing them and is able to sense the strong auras of other powerful individuals.
