Description
Blue Keeper, also known as the Blue Dragon Keeper, is a central figure in the Ranger Association and one of the five Dragon Keepers defending Earth. His real name is Shōgo Aoshima, though some sources refer to him as Keisuke Soma, possibly indicating a predecessor who held the title or a minor inconsistency in early information. He serves as the leader of the Blue Battalion, a division specializing in planning and commanding ranger operations.
Before becoming a Dragon Keeper, Shōgo lived a difficult life as a criminal, working in the underworld to raise money for the orphanage where he was raised. He was saved by the previous Blue Keeper, which set him on the path to eventually inherit the role himself. Despite his rough background, he was chosen to become a Keeper and took a hiatus from the organization before being compelled to return to active duty.
Blue Keeper maintains a stoic and silent public persona, rarely speaking during battles or official appearances. This silence is not natural to his personality but a deliberate choice imposed by his fellow Keepers. In truth, he is extremely loud, vulgar, and prone to swearing; his colleagues determined that his true manner of speaking would not reflect well on the image of a heroic figure, so they require him to remain quiet in public. His attache, Komachi Aizome, even notes that if he spoke during battles, children would likely be more frightened of him than of the kaijin they fight.
Beneath this rough and intimidating exterior, Blue Keeper possesses a legitimate sense of justice and genuinely cares for those under his command. He becomes especially motivated and heated when his subordinates, particularly Komachi, are harmed. When Komachi was injured by the duster XX, Blue Keeper was visibly angered and immediately activated his divine artifact to pursue retribution. His relationship with Komachi is one of his most significant connections; she acts as his handler and frequently keeps his brash behavior in check, even headbutting him to snap him out of his rage during arguments. Despite his intimidating demeanor, Komachi deeply cares for him and recognizes his value as a leader.
As a Dragon Keeper, Blue Keeper is one of the primary antagonists from the perspective of the duster protagonist, Fighter D. His role in the story pits him directly against the monster forces, though the series continually complicates the moral dynamics between the Rangers and the dusters. He commands the Blue Battalion and oversees operations from the Ranger Association, maintaining the facade that the weekly battles are genuine struggles rather than staged performances.
Blue Keepers abilities derive from his Divine Tool, the Blue Dragon Leviathan, a large lance with a bone-like structure and blue musculature that allows him to transform and access his powers. His abilities follow a water and ocean theme, reflecting the color blue associated with his position. One of his notable techniques is Umibōzu, which allows him to summon gigantic body parts such as a face that fires water lasers or enormous arms that enhance his strength; even if these summoned limbs are blown off, they can regrow easily when he reactivates the Divine Tool. He can also use Ryūgū Otohime to summon fish contained within small water spheres that float toward opponents and can be detonated at will. Another ability, Kuramitsuha, lets him manipulate a special type of acid that burns anything except himself. He can summon bodies of water with Hiruko and freeze anything, including tangible objects and even concepts such as time, using Ame no Fuyukinu no Kami. His most notable ability is the power to use the techniques of all the rangers under his command, including Komachis shield and various other abilities from his battalion members. In addition to his Divine Tool, he carries a standard-issue Dragon Gadget created by the Yellow Battalion, which can shift between sword form, gun form, and a more powerful burst form.
Blue Keeper meets his end during a confrontation with Lord Peltrola and Fighter D. After a fierce battle, he is killed by an attack from Peltrola, not by D directly. His death affects even his enemies; D, despite hating the Dragon Keepers, is visibly upset that victory was taken from him and repeatedly orders the fallen Blue Keeper to get back up and fight. This makes Blue Keeper the first of the five Dragon Keepers to die. Following his death, Komachi Aizome temporarily assumes leadership of the Blue Battalion before a successor is appointed.
