TV-Series
Description
Dot Barrett is a first-year student at Easton Magic Academy and a central figure in the series' main group of friends. He is a young man with spiky red hair and red-brown eyes, usually kept in place by a black headband adorned with three white plus-signs. He has a single magic line on his face, a standard mark for a young mage, but hidden beneath his headband is a special cross-shaped mark known as the Ira Kreuz.

On the surface, Dot is hot-blooded, obnoxious, and incredibly loud. His most defining trait is his unshakable belief that he is the protagonist of the world, constantly declaring himself the main character and acting as if everything revolves around him. He harbors an intense and comical hatred for handsome or popular men, whom he refers to as hot guys, and he envies their ability to attract female attention. His stated goal is to one day join the Bureau of Magic and create a world without such good-looking individuals. Despite this rough and arrogant exterior, Dot possesses a strong sense of honor and is deeply loyal to those he considers friends. He is the type of person who will apologize when he is wrong and is quick to act in defense of others, even at great personal cost. He demonstrates surprisingly good house manners, such as always bringing a gift like herbal tea when visiting someone's home, a detail that often surprises his peers.

Dot's background explains much of his current persona. In his childhood, he was a timid and insecure boy who was frequently bullied. He was always protected by his older sister, who taught him a crucial lesson: to never betray a true friend who would cry or get angry for his sake. This lesson became the foundation of his personal code of loyalty. His family consists of his grandmother, mother, and that same older sister, which might also contribute to his unexpected fondness for refined activities like brewing tea and playing the violin.

Within the story, Dot serves as a rival, a comic foil, and a steadfast ally. He is initially hostile towards the protagonist, Mash Burnedead, due to jealousy, but becomes a close friend after Mash saves him from a dangerous opponent during a forest class. He develops an unrequited love for their mutual friend Lemon Irvine, who once showed him concern for his injuries. He confesses his feelings repeatedly, only to be rejected each time, yet he remains devoted to her. Dot shares an intense and competitive rivalry with Lance Crown, whom he considers a handsome rival. Despite his jealousy, he deeply respects Lance's strength and will fight alongside him when it matters most.

Dot's role in the story involves significant personal development, particularly regarding his hidden potential. As a Self-Restraint One, also known as a wielder of the Ira Kreuz (or "Ira Kreuz" in some sources), Dot was born with a warding cross that seals away a vast amount of his magical power. When his emotions spike to their peak, usually triggered by the desire to protect his friends, the seal on his forehead breaks and his true power is unleashed. In this state, his already impressive Explomb magic becomes exponentially more destructive, transforming him into a battle demon capable of overwhelming opponents with far more magical lines than himself. This power first manifests significantly in his fight against a member of the Magia Lupus and evolves further in later battles, demonstrating his growth from a boastful braggart into a reliable and powerful warrior who embodies his sister's teachings about the meaning of true friendship.
