Description
Lance Crown is a first-year student at Easton Magic Academy and a central figure in Mashle: Magic and Muscles. He hails from the prestigious Crown family and is widely regarded as the top-ranked student in his grade, both in magical power and academic performance. Lance wields gravity magic, allowing him to manipulate gravitational forces for offense, defense, and mobility. His most defining personal trait is an intense devotion to his younger sister, Anna, who suffers from a disease that steadily depletes her magic. Under the laws of this world, individuals who lose all their magic are to be eliminated. Lance’s primary motivation is to become a Divine Visionary, the highest rank of mage, so he can protect Anna and eventually reform the discriminatory system that condemns the powerless.

By nature, Lance is serious, intelligent, and strategic, often approaching situations with a calm and analytical mindset. He maintains a composed exterior but harbors deep compassion for those who are mistreated, a sentiment rooted in his own past as someone who stood up to bullies even when it led to fights. Despite his refined image, he has notable quirks: he is unabashedly a sister complex, often doting on Anna to an extreme degree, and he is deathly afraid of bugs and ghosts, which contrasts sharply with his formidable reputation.

In the story, Lance serves as the true rival to the protagonist, Mash Burnedead. Initially, he views Mash’s lack of magic with disdain and sees their competition as a means to prove the superiority of conventional magic. However, as they face challenges together, Lance develops respect for Mash’s unorthodox strength and unwavering resolve, evolving from a rival into a trusted ally. His key relationships include Mash, his roommate Finn Ames, and fellow Adler dorm members Dot Barrett and Lemon Irvine, with whom he forms a close-knit group. Lance also shares a bond with his older sister Anna, who is the emotional center of his character.

Throughout the series, Lance undergoes significant growth. He learns to temper his pride and open himself to cooperation, moving beyond his initial arrogance. His gravity magic becomes increasingly refined, and he demonstrates remarkable adaptability in combat, using his power to crush, levitate, and control the battlefield. Notably, he is also highly knowledgeable about the academy’s structure and rules, often using his intellect to gain an edge. His development culminates in a deeper understanding of what it means to protect others, balancing his personal mission with a broader sense of justice.
