Description
Aoi Tsubaki is the central human character in the story, a college student who has possessed the rare ability to see ayakashi, or spirits, since she was a young child. This ability, inherited from her grandfather Shiro Tsubaki, set her apart from others and led to a difficult childhood. Her mother abandoned her, leaving her alone and near starvation until a kind ayakashi with a mask provided her with food. She was eventually placed in an orphanage before being adopted and raised by her grandfather, Shiro. It was under his care that she learned to cook, a skill he deliberately tailored to the sweet and light palate preferred by ayakashi as a form of protection for her.
Aoi is defined by her strong-willed and resourceful nature. She is not easily intimidated, even when facing powerful spiritual beings, and possesses a practical, no-nonsense attitude.
