Description
Percival is the main protagonist of the anime The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse and one of the four knights named in a prophecy that they will bring ruin upon the world. He is a sixteen-year-old boy of small stature with bright green hair styled into two wild cowlicks that resemble wings, and after his grandfather's death he wears the old man's cowl and helmet nearly everywhere he goes. Percival grew up in a remote and isolated region known as God's Finger, a towering rock formation far from civilization, where he lived alone with his grandfather Varghese, a former Holy Knight who quietly raised him away from the outside world.
Because of this secluded upbringing, Percival developed a pure, innocent, and trusting personality. He is curious about the world, somewhat childlike in his thinking, and easily deceived by those with ill intentions, yet he is also genuinely kind to everyone he meets, including talking animals and beings that others would fear, such as demons. His grandfather raised him to have a strong sense of justice, so Percival cannot tolerate cruelty or wrongdoing, and even toward enemies such as the knight who killed his grandfather, he prefers to avoid taking lives and is willing to seek reconciliation with those who are essentially good at heart.
Percival's quiet life is shattered when the knight Ironside appears at God's Finger, kills Varghese, and reveals himself to be Percival's father. Grief-stricken and desperate for answers, Percival leaves his isolated home to find Ironside and learn the truth behind his grandfather's death, a journey that also fulfills Varghese's final wish that his grandson see the vast world beyond their home. Along the way, he discovers that he is one of the Four Knights of the Apocalypse, the knight who represents Death, and that the prophecy ties him to the eventual destruction of King Arthur's Camelot. His personal quest for vengeance gradually transforms into a larger mission as he embraces his identity and the responsibility placed upon him.
Later in the story, a deeper truth about Percival's origins is revealed. He is not actually Ironside's biological son. Instead, he is a Spirit of Life, a magical entity sealed by forbidden magic into the body of Diodora, Ironside's deceased son, as part of a plan by the knight to give his heir an immortal body, a scheme that ultimately went out of control. This revelation shapes Percival's understanding of himself and his place in the conflict between the four knights and Camelot.
