Description
Kensei Maeshima, a first-year student at Ionodai High, sports messy red hair, grey eyes, and a slim frame. His typical attire includes Ionodai High’s jacket layered over an orange-and-yellow t-shirt, matching track pants, and red-and-black sneakers.

Born to former professional ice skaters, he began skating in elementary school and rose as a team ace, fixated on a self-proclaimed rivalry with Reo Shinozaki. Two months before a major competition, his parents perished in a car accident, forcing him to relocate to his grandparents' home. He trained relentlessly despite the tragedy but lost to Reo, who then dismissed their rivalry. This rejection led Kensei to quit figure skating at age eleven.

Years later, he channeled his athleticism into assisting multiple school teams without joining any. Secretly, he frequented a park at night, mimicking skating moves while watching online videos—often of Reo. Classmate Hayato Sasugai, privy to Kensei’s past and nursing his own grudge against Reo, discovered him there and persuaded him to join an exhibition skate-leading event. Though Kensei fell during the performance, he reignited his passion for skating and joined Ionodai High’s skate-leading club.

Initially, Kensei projected cocky, reckless confidence, prioritizing "cool" individual actions over teamwork and clashing with peers. His return drew distrust from former teammates over his past abandonment. Early skate-leading struggles with coordination and teamwork sparked conflicts, notably with teammate Itsuki Kiriyama, culminating in Kensei’s temporary expulsion until a challenge match reinstated him.

Kensei’s natural athleticism includes memorizing routines through observation, and his figure skating past aids his adaptability in skate-leading. With Ionodai’s team, he evolved—respecting seniors, valuing collaboration, and balancing instinct with strategy. Competitions revealed his gradual synchronization, transforming him from a "leashed" soloist to an integrated team member.

His drive shifted from solely defeating Reo to cherishing skate-leading and team bonds. This growth peaked at the Grand Prix finals, where Ionodai faced Reo’s team, St. Cavis. Training and competitions helped Kensei reconcile his past, including unresolved feelings toward Reo, while building trust-based relationships.

He favors chocolate protein bars.
