TV-Series
Description
Go Gunhee, also presented under the Japanese localized name Kiyoomi Gotō, is a pivotal supporting character in the second season. He holds the esteemed position of Chairman of the Korean Hunters Association and is a veteran S-Rank hunter, once recognized as the most powerful hunter in all of Korea during his prime.

In terms of background, Gunhee is an elderly man, well over eighty years old, whose body is marked by numerous scars, a testament to his many years of active combat. Despite his advanced age, he possesses a robust and muscular physique. He is typically seen dressed in formal attire, such as a well-tailored three-piece suit, befitting his status as a high-ranking government official. A distinctive feature is the transformation in his eyes, which glow a bright, intense yellow when he channels his formidable power. He was among the first humans to be chosen as a vessel for a Ruler, a powerful celestial being, bestowing upon him strength far beyond that of a typical hunter. However, his aged body can no longer fully handle this immense power, forcing him into a semi-retired administrative role after only a few years of active duty. S-Rank healing magic proved incapable of reversing the effects of time, leading him to focus his efforts on managing the association.

His personality is defined by humility, openness, and a profound sense of integrity. He holds deep respect for individuals who demonstrate strong moral character and selflessness, while harboring strong disdain for those driven purely by greed or personal ambition. This moral clarity is what drew him to Sung Jinwoo, whose honesty and perseverance he immediately recognized and respected. Gunhee is portrayed as a workaholic, often sacrificing his own health for the sake of his duties. Beneath his calm and diplomatic exterior lies a deep yearning to return to active duty as a hunter. He despises the limitations imposed by his age and secretly craves the thrill of battle and the chance to fight for the greater good once more.

Motivated by a genuine desire to protect the people of Korea and the integrity of the hunter system, Gunhee’s primary role in the story is that of a mentor and an ally to Sung Jinwoo. Unlike many who view Jinwoo with suspicion or a desire to exploit his power, Gunhee offers him support, resources, and autonomy. He uses his authority to grant Jinwoo special permissions, such as the legal right to raid high-ranking gates alone, hoping to keep the young hunter in Korea and on the side of humanity. He acts as a stabilizing political force, navigating international pressures and internal threats while quietly orchestrating events to support those with pure intentions.

Key relationships define his character arc. His bond with Sung Jinwoo is the most significant, evolving from mutual respect to a deep, almost paternal trust. He sees in Jinwoo the hope for humanity's future. His trusty right-hand man is Woo Jinchul, the Chief Inspector of the Association, who handles field operations and reports directly to him. He also has strained relationships with foreign counterparts, such as Matsumoto Shigeo of Japan, whose treacherous plot during the Jeju Island raid Gunhee uncovers and confronts with righteous fury.

Gunhee undergoes notable development from a resigned bureaucrat to an active hero making a final, decisive stand. He spends much of the series as a supportive figure from the sidelines, but his inability to fight weighs heavily on him. His development culminates in a final, desperate battle against the Frost Monarch, Sillad. Realizing he cannot win but determined not to die without purpose, he unleashes his full power, buying precious time and shattering the Monarch’s barrier to send a signal for Jinwoo. In his dying moments, he refuses Jinwoo’s attempt to save him with the Holy Water of Life, accepting his death and entrusting Jinwoo with the future of humanity.

In terms of notable abilities, as a vessel of a Ruler, Gunhee possesses several extraordinary powers. He has immense physical strength and speed, capable of shattering thick layers of ice with a headbutt and deflecting energy blasts with his bare hands, as demonstrated in his fight with Sillad. He wields Rulers Authority, a powerful form of telekinesis that allows him to move objects with his mind. His ultimate technique is the manifestation of his spiritual body, where he briefly sheds his frail human form to unleash the full, terrifying power of the Ruler within. Despite his physical limitations, these abilities mark him as one of the most powerful beings in the Solo Leveling universe, a true S-Rank among S-Ranks who dies a hero's death.
