TV-Series
Description
Kotono Shiunji is the youngest member of the Shiunji family, serving as the fifth daughter and the only sibling still attending middle school. She is introduced as a third-year student, initially fourteen years old and later fifteen, with her birthday falling on June fifteenth. She lives in Tokyo’s Seijo neighborhood with her two brothers and four older sisters, where she is often seen as the baby of the family due to her gentle and unassuming presence.

By nature, Kotono is extremely shy, meek, and innocent. She habitually averts her eyes and keeps her gaze lowered, projecting an air of fragility and quiet reserve. Her demeanor has made her one of the most popular girls among the school’s unofficial Shiunji Sister fan club. However, this timid exterior conceals a remarkably determined side that surfaces exclusively when her romantic feelings for her eldest brother, Arata, are involved. She stubbornly refuses to accept the notion that her affection is merely platonic, and she is willing to act with a boldness that starkly contrasts her usual shyness.

Kotono’s primary motivation is her love for Arata. She yearns for him to see her as a romantic partner rather than a little sister. This drive intensifies dramatically after the family learns that the siblings are not biologically related. On that same night, she immediately researches the legal requirements for marriage between adopted siblings and, despite having been rejected once before, ambushes Arata in the bathroom to confess her feelings again. Her refusal to back down in the face of rejection becomes a defining element of her character.

Within the story, Kotono functions as a key catalyst. Her coming of age and the father’s subsequent revelation about the siblings’ lack of blood ties ignite the series’ central romantic entanglements. Her relentless pursuit of Arata generates much of the emotional tension and comedic friction that drive the narrative forward, keeping her at the heart of the unfolding relationship dynamics among the Shiunji children.

Her relationships with her siblings form the core of her world. As the youngest, she looks up to her older sisters Banri, Seiha, Ouka, and Minami, and her older brother Shion, but her most charged bond is with Arata. While she receives affection from her family as the fragile one, she also proves to be unexpectedly assertive with him. She has a peculiar habit of hiding in closets to think alone, a practice that has earned her the teasing nickname “closet ghost” among her sisters and further illustrates her introspective personality.

Kotono’s development traces a journey from a seemingly passive, fragile girl to someone who actively fights for what she wants. Once the truth of the family is out, she does not merely pine in silence; she takes tangible steps to pursue Arata, revealing a resourceful and bold undercurrent beneath her shy surface. Though she continues to be soft-spoken and easily flustered in most situations, her capacity to push past her own timidity when her feelings are on the line marks her growth.

In terms of notable abilities, Kotono does not possess any supernatural powers, but she demonstrates a sharp mind and quick initiative when motivated by love. Her immediate dive into civil law to find a path to marry Arata highlights a practical intelligence. Beyond that, her enduring persistence, resilience to rejection, and the stark duality between her innocent appearance and her inner tenacity stand out as her most distinctive traits.
