Description
Anna Doll is the central protagonist of the fictional otome game Magical Academy Love & Beast, the world in which the anime is set. She is a first-year student at the magical academy, having been born on October 10th to a family of commoners who run a bakery. Despite her humble origins, Anna possesses a natural talent for magic. Her parents worked tirelessly to afford the academy’s high tuition fees, a sacrifice that Anna deeply honors by studying with immense diligence. Her efforts paid off when she passed the entrance examination at the top of her year.

Anna is characterized by her optimism, resilience, and a profound sense of gratitude. She is a determined individual who confronts challenges with a positive outlook, always seeking to better herself. However, she also has an endearing, clumsy side and is known to trip on flat ground. Her motivations are rooted in repaying her parents for their sacrifices and living up to the expectations of those who believe in her. She is keenly aware of her status as a commoner, which initially gives her an inferiority complex when compared to her noble-born peers.

In the original game narrative, Anna was meant to be tormented by the villainess Grace Auvergne, who would insult her and her family. This mistreatment was intended to be a source of悔恨泪水, leading Anna to grow through adversity and eventually find romance. However, the story is upended when Grace’s body is inhabited by the soul of Kenzaburo Tondabayashi, a middle-aged bureaucrat. Instead of issuing insults, Kenzaburo, viewing Anna through a parental lens, praises her parents' hard work and gives her sincere, supportive advice. Anna is deeply moved by this unexpected kindness, crying tears of joy, and her animosity transforms into absolute loyalty and admiration.

From that point onward, Anna’s role in the story shifts dramatically. She becomes Grace’s constant companion, following her everywhere and interpreting all of Grace’s actions and words, which are often intended as villainous or sarcastic, as profound and benevolent guidance. Her signature catchphrase, which she utters in nearly any situation, is a variation of, As expected of Lady Grace. This deep-seated devotion becomes a running joke and is often represented on screen with visual effects showing her affection for Grace increasing. Anna’s key relationships are overwhelmingly centered on Grace, though she also maintains a loving and respectful bond with her parents. Her pure and sincere nature also earns her the affection of others, including the game's original male love interests, though her path to them is now entirely mediated by Grace.

Throughout the series, Anna demonstrates remarkable development. Her initial insecurity is replaced by a quiet confidence bolstered by Grace’s support. Her abilities grow at an astonishing rate, a trait that Kenzaburo’s daughter, who is watching the game’s events from the real world, labels as her protagonist光环. She is a quick learner, absorbing knowledge in magic, martial arts, and even high-society etiquette in just a few days. Her innate intelligence and problem-solving skills frequently shine, such as when she deduces the structure of a labyrinth or finds a clever solution to cross a lake.

Notably, Anna possesses powerful magical abilities. Her contracted magical beast is Sirius, a wind-attribute pegasus with a personality that reflects its owner's pure heart. She is proficient in wind magic, capable of creating powerful gusts of air like an air cannon and using air currents to transmit her voice over long distances. During a critical event on Christmas Eve, when Grace’s own beast goes on a rampage, Anna’s resolve causes Sirius to evolve and upgrade into a unicorn, allowing her to help stop the crisis. This evolution is a testament to her inner strength and her crucial role in the story as a heroine who grows not through conflict with her rival, but through an unexpected and profound friendship.
