TV-Series
Description
Johann Agares is the vice principal of Weston College, a prestigious boarding school. As the principal is almost perpetually absent and occupied with other matters, Agares is the authority figure who takes charge of all administrative duties and daily operations within the school. In this role, he is responsible for formally welcoming new students, maintaining order, and overseeing major events, such as the annual cricket tournament.

In his day-to-day conduct, Agares presents himself as a calm, composed, and rational individual who performs his responsibilities with an unwavering demeanor. He is a strong supporter of the school's strict traditions and ensures that new students swear an oath to obey the rules. Despite this serious exterior, he displays a peculiar and noticeable clumsiness, frequently tripping and falling, often injuring his head to the point of bleeding. Even while injured, he maintains his composure and continues with his tasks without addressing the wound, a behavior that those around him find strange.

This odd behavior is a clue to a deeper truth: Johann Agares is not a living human. He is actually a distorted flesh doll, a type of animated corpse created by the enigmatic mortician Undertaker. His creation was so meticulously crafted that his movements and personality are nearly indistinguishable from a living person, leading Undertaker to regard him as the true masterpiece of the Public School Arc. However, the creation is not perfect, as his frequent, unexplained falls serve as a remnant of his unnatural state.

The story of how Agares came to be a flesh doll reveals a dark past. Before his death, he was a corrupt official who abused his position as vice principal. He had a secret alliance with Derrick Arden, a student from a noble family, for whom he would turn a blind eye to bullying and other illicit activities within the school. In exchange for this protection, Agares accepted bribes including money, alcohol, and other gifts.

When the truth about Derrick's behavior was finally exposed to the school's prestigious prefects, known as the P4, Agares used his authority to try and protect his corrupt partner. This act enraged the P4. In retaliation, Edgar Redmond and Lawrence Bluewer restrained him, and Herman Greenhill killed him by beating him violently. To cover up the murder and the ensuing scandal, Agares's body was then transformed by Undertaker into the functional flesh doll seen in the present, allowing him to continue his duties as if nothing had happened.

Throughout the Public School Arc, Agares serves as an obstacle to Ciel Phantomhive's investigation. He perpetuates the school's false narrative that Derrick Arden and other vanished students are safe, speaking for the silent principal during a crucial Midnight Tea Party. When his true nature and the conspiracy are eventually revealed, Undertaker attempts to flee. Agares, as a flesh doll, is forced to battle alongside other similar beings against the demon butler Sebastian Michaelis, ultimately leading to his final destruction.
