Description
Jester Karture is a central figure in the Fake Holy Grail War of Snowfield, and his role is defined by his nature as a Dead Apostle, a type of vampire, rather than an ordinary magus. His identity is that of a centuries-old vampire originally known as Dorothea, a small girl whose lineage as a member of the undead traces back to the powerful Dead Apostle Van-Fem. Disgusted with what he perceives as the tedium of the world, Jester enters the Holy Grail War not for a wish in the traditional sense, but to use the Grail’s power to awaken a slumbering entity known as the Great Spider, an act he believes would bring about the end of the world and grant him the self-destruction he desires.
Jester’s personality is best described as that of a decadent and utterly twisted hedonist. He is driven by a profound sense of boredom, viewing existence as weary and worthless. However, this changes dramatically upon his summoning of the Servant False Assassin, a fanatical zealot without a name. When she immediately kills him for what she perceives as an insult to her faith, Jester is not angered but instead becomes enraptured. The incident reawakens a sense of excitement within him that he believed he had lost forever. His goal instantly shifts from apocalyptic oblivion to a deeply personal and sadistic obsession: to break False Assassin. His only desire becomes to taint, dominate, and utterly crush her faith, body, and soul, believing the despair she would show in that moment to be a prize far greater than the Holy Grail or the end of the world. This obsession is so profound that Van-Fem, his own progenitor, severs ties with him entirely, dismissing Jester as an unnecessary aberration in the world.
In the story of Fate/strange Fake, Jester acts as an unpredictable and dangerous wild card. Right after the summoning, his heart is crushed by False Assassin's Noble Phantasm, Zabaniya: Delusional Heartbeat, and he seemingly dies before his disciples are also slaughtered. However, his unique nature allows him to revive moments later, laughing with pure joy at finding his new purpose. He then cannibalizes the corpses of his disciples without a shred of remorse and begins his new mission, all without a formal magical contract binding him to his Servant. His role becomes that of a persistent stalker who alternately aids and obstructs his target, all to prolong her suffering. He later invades the dream world of a young girl named Tsubaki Kuruoka, the master of False Rider, to use her as a tool for tormenting Assassin. His actions frequently put him into conflict with other participants, including the Church's executor, Hansa Cervantes, who proves to be a formidable opponent.
The most defining aspect of Jester is his signature ability, the Six Successive Male Attires, also known as the Six-Hearted Revolver. This technique allows him to store six separate conceptual cores, each containing a different "self" or personality, within magical tattoos on his chest that resemble the cylinder of a revolver. By switching the active core, he can change his form and even his fundamental nature as a species, effectively granting him six extra lives. If one body is killed, he can simply swap to another. A destroyed core turns black and can be moved to a different position, like rotating a revolver's chamber, bringing a new red core into place. These forms include a slim young man with vampire abilities like controlling wind and flame, a child of about ten years old without any vampire traits or weaknesses, a powerful red werewolf, a steel golem implanted with a self-destruct spell, and an elderly magus. His original, and final, form is that of a small girl, Dorothea. While using a proxy form, he can make it act and think independently. Beyond this, Jester possesses immense magical energy reserves, stated to be enough to simultaneously power five Servants of False Assassin’s caliber. He can also control and extend his shadow as a weapon to entangle and consume targets and can invade the dreams of others. His vampiric nature grants him physical abilities far beyond a normal human and provides a conceptual advantage against human-made weapons. For example, the Noble Phantasms of the human police organization Clan Calatin have little to no effect on him, though he admits a Servant using the same weapons would be a different matter.
