TV-Series
Description
Lily is an android affiliated with the Resistance, a faction of ground-based androids fighting the Machine Lifeforms on Earth long after humanity has fled to the Moon. In NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, she serves as the leader of the Resistance Camp, a role that in the original game belonged to another android named Anemone. Her appearance is that of a female android with black hair usually tied up and green eyes.

Lily carries the weight of a long and painful history. She is a survivor of the Pearl Harbor Descent operation, a military campaign that took place over two hundred years before the events of the main story. That mission was devastating, resulting in the deaths of many Resistance and YoRHa members, including close comrades she still mourns. Because of this traumatic past, Lily is often wary, tired, and deeply skeptical of promises from the Council of Humanity or the YoRHa command. She has seen too much loss to easily trust that help will arrive. This scepticism is evident when she initially doubts the arrival of reinforcements, only to be proven wrong when the YoRHa units 2B and 9S appear.

Her motivation is driven by a sense of duty to protect her remaining people and to carry on the fight despite her exhaustion. She wants to be useful and to ensure that the sacrifices of those who fell before her were not in vain. Underneath her guarded exterior, she is compassionate and cares deeply for the androids under her command, though she rarely shows vulnerability openly.

In the story, Lily plays a pivotal role as the leader of the Resistance, providing local support and shelter to 2B and 9S during their missions on Earth. Her camp becomes a central hub where the main characters interact with the wider world and receive critical information about the Machine Lifeforms. She also serves as a living connection to the past, especially to the history of the YoRHa prototype units. When she first meets 2B, she is visibly startled and refers to her as Number 2, a name that originally belonged to A2, a rogue YoRHa survivor from the same tragic operation that shaped Lily's own past. This moment reveals that Lily knows more about the YoRHa project than she initially lets on, and it creates an undercurrent of unresolved history between her and the android soldiers.

Key relationships include her interactions with 2B and 9S, whom she treats with a mix of professional respect and personal wariness, as they remind her of figures from her past. Her relationship with the other Resistance members is that of a leader who has earned their loyalty through shared hardship. Though she is not a frontline combatant in the same class as the YoRHa units, her strength lies in her endurance, her knowledge of the land, and her ability to hold together a community under constant threat.

Throughout NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, Lily undergoes a subtle but meaningful development. Initially burdened by guilt and trauma, she gradually begins to open up to the possibility of hope and cooperation, especially as she witnesses the dedication of 2B and 9S. Flashbacks to the Pearl Harbor Descent reveal the extent of her suffering and the friendships she lost, allowing the audience to understand why she carries herself the way she does. Her growth is not about becoming a powerful fighter but about learning to trust again and finding a reason to keep fighting beyond simple survival.

As an android, Lily possesses enhanced strength, agility, and durability that are standard for her kind, allowing her to hold her own in battle despite not being a specialized combat model. Her true ability, however, lies in leadership and resource management. She organizes the Resistance, coordinates defenses, and keeps morale alive in a seemingly endless war. Her experience also makes her an excellent strategist, capable of reading situations and making hard decisions under pressure.

In summary, Lily is a resilient and haunted leader whose past defines her present. She is a survivor of a forgotten war, a keeper of memories, and a reluctant but steadfast guide to the android soldiers who come after her. Her journey in the series is one of confronting old wounds and finding a renewed sense of purpose in a world that has taken so much from her.
