Description
King Kadan is a character from Dragon Ball Daima who serves as the ruler of the Third Demon World. He is also the father of the young demoness Panzy. His name is derived from a Japanese word referring to flower beds, which contrasts with his imposing and rugged demeanor. Physically, Kadan is large and corpulent with blue-green skin. He has black eyes and a prominent scar running down the left side of his face, with beige hair styled into a mustache and a large palm tree-like tuft. Like other denizens of the Demon Realm, he possesses pointed ears. His armor is green with golden accents, featuring a sun emblem, and he wears a purple cape. He is also forced to wear a Magic Collar around his neck, a device used by the realm's rulers for control and surveillance.
Kadan carries himself as an imposing and authoritative figure, with a reputation for behaving like an uncivilized mafia boss. However, despite this fearsome exterior, he is not a villainous character. He selectively steals from criminals and only executes those who have committed heinous acts. His primary motivation stems from a deep concern for the peace and stability of the Demon Realm. He views the current Supreme Demon King, Gomah, as a despotic and exploitative ruler whose ambitions threaten the entire realm, including the impoverished Third Demon World. Consequently, Kadan aspires to overthrow Gomah and take his position as king, believing his own leadership would bring a much-needed balance. Despite his rough nature, Kadan is highly protective and affectionate toward his daughter, Panzy.
In the story of Dragon Ball Daima, Kadan is first encountered when Glorio brings a miniaturized Goku and Shin to his castle. Contrary to Glorio's claims that he sought Kadan out, Kadan reveals that Glorio approached him first with the proposal of bringing a powerful warrior from the outside world to defeat Gomah. Initially skeptical of Goku's abilities due to his childlike appearance, Kadan arranges a test where Goku must fight his soldiers. When Goku easily defeats them and demonstrates the Super Saiyan transformation, Kadan is astonished and becomes a firm believer in Goku's potential as the key to defeating Gomah. He provides the group with a new aircraft and orders his associate Hybis to retrieve Vegeta and the others from Earth. While he initially hesitates to let Panzy join the dangerous mission, he ultimately permits her to go, showing his respect for her wishes despite his protective instincts.
Kadan forms a close alliance with Goku and his friends, becoming a crucial ally in their quest against the Tamagami guardians and ultimately against Gomah. His relationship with his daughter is central to his character; he is so proud of her and confident in Goku's potential victory that he jokingly offers Panzy's hand in marriage to Goku, much to her chagrin. Goku declines, stating he is already married with children. The relationship with his subordinates is built on loyalty, as they follow him into battle against the might of the Supreme Demon King's forces.
Kadan undergoes notable development as the story progresses. He begins as a regional king with ambition but limited means. After proving his bravery and leadership by bringing his army to join the final battle against Gomah's military police, he earns significant political standing. Following Gomah's defeat and the ascension of the more benign Majin Kuu as the new Demon King, Kuu appoints Kadan as a minister. This is a historic appointment, as no one from the Third Demon World has ever held such a high position before, marking a significant elevation of his status and a step toward the realm's future peace.
In terms of abilities, Kadan is a capable fighter and leader. He demonstrates proficiency in flight, a standard skill for powerful characters in the Dragon Ball universe. He wields a rocket launcher in combat and coordinates a special technique with Panzy called the Kadan Combination, where Panzy sits on his shoulder and rapidly fires two pistols while he fires a powerful energy blast from his launcher. His true strength, however, lies in his authority and command, as he leads a dedicated army of soldiers into battle against the forces of the Supreme Demon King.
