Description
Dvalinn Gulliver is one of the four members of the Gulliver Brothers, a quartet of pallum adventurers who serve as high-ranking executives within the Freya Familia. He is the second oldest among the siblings, with his brothers being Alfrigg (the eldest), Berling, and Grer (the youngest). The brothers are visually nearly identical, all wearing sand-colored armor and full-face helmets, making eye color the primary means of distinguishing them; Dvalinn is recognized by his yellow eyes and matching yellow cloth accents on his armor.
The background of Dvalinn and his brothers is rooted in their lives as master craftsmen before becoming adventurers. They were renowned artisans, celebrated for creating fine jewelry and metalwork, to the extent that their fame spread to surrounding cities. Their lives changed forever when the goddess Freya visited their workshop and commissioned a necklace. After four days of labor, their dwarven master revealed that Freya had agreed to sleep with him in exchange for releasing the brothers from his service. Enraged by this revelation, the brothers killed the dwarf and, viewing Freya's act as a sacrifice made for them, swore an undying oath of loyalty to her and joined her familia.
In terms of personality, Dvalinn and his brothers are defined by their absolute and possessive devotion to Freya. They desire her love exclusively for themselves, leading to a hostile relationship with other members of the Freya Familia, whom they view as rivals and obstacles. This jealousy extends to the protagonist, Bell Cranel, due to the attention he receives from the goddess, though after training with him, they developed a degree of respect for him as a warrior. The brothers share a deep, almost telepathic bond, able to coordinate their actions and communicate their wills instantly, often making it seem like a single person is speaking. Despite their unity, they dislike being seen as identical and have made efforts to establish individual identities, though without much success. They also harbor resentment toward the pallum captain Finn Deimne, feeling he presumes to act as a representative for their entire race without being asked to do so.
Dvalinn serves a critical role as a front-line fighter and enforcer for the Freya Familia. As a Level 5 adventurer, he possesses immense physical capabilities far surpassing those of lower-level individuals. The brothers are considered one of the city's most formidable fighting forces; their exceptional teamwork allows them to fight as a single entity, and when synchronized, they are said to be a match for a Level 6 adventurer. While they are extremely powerful together, their combat effectiveness is severely reduced if they are separated. Each brother has a specific specialization in combat: Grer has observation skills, Berling excels at searching for enemies, and Alfrigg handles rapid decision-making based on analysis. Dvalinn's unique proficiency is in detecting magic, allowing him to figure out the magical abilities of his opponents.
Beyond his role in the group, Dvalinn has demonstrated notable individual abilities. He possesses the Abnormal Resistance development ability at a high rank, granting him significant protection against poisons and other abnormal statuses. Each brother wields an oversized weapon, and Dvalinn is specifically noted for fighting with a great hammer. His past life is revealed in spin-off material to be Deval, a spear-wielding knight of the second generation of the legendary Fianna Knights. Over the course of events in the fifth season, particularly during the Great Faction War, the brothers show a grudging respect for their opponents. Even when seriously wounded and weakened, Dvalinn's brother Alfrigg displayed incredible endurance and pain tolerance, suggesting the entire family shares a tenacious will to fight. Through these conflicts, their relationship with Bell Cranel evolves from pure jealousy to a measure of warrior's respect.
