Description
Aiz Wallenstein is a first-class adventurer and an executive member of the Loki Familia in the labyrinth city of Orario, where she is known by the title Sword Princess. She is sixteen years old, with long golden-blonde hair and striking gold eyes. For dungeon exploration, she wears white and black battle cloth with lightweight armor including a breastplate, arm covers, and guards for her head, hips, and knees. Outside combat, she prefers a simple white one-piece dress with gold lining.
Her past is marked by tragedy: as a young child, her parents were killed by the One-Eyed Black Dragon, a powerful monster. Her mother was a spirit named Aria. This event instilled in Aiz a deep hatred for monsters and an overwhelming desire for vengeance, driving her to pursue strength relentlessly. She was taken in by the Loki Familia at the age of seven.
Aiz has a quiet and reserved personality, struggling to express her emotions verbally, which often leads others to perceive her as cold or aloof. In reality, she can be naive and childlike, and she does not look down on those weaker than herself. She has several quirks: she loves a fried potato snack called Jagamarukun, specifically the red bean butter flavor; she cannot swim due to a traumatic training incident from her childhood; and she becomes violent and destructive when drunk.
As an adventurer, Aiz is Level 6, placing her among the strongest in Orario. She wields a nearly indestructible rapier named Desperate. Her signature magic is Ariel, a wind enchantment that enhances her attack, defense, speed, and allows limited flight. Her unique skill, Avenger, drastically amplifies her attack power against monsters, especially dragon-kind, in proportion to her hatred. When combined, Ariel and Avenger create a devastating technique known as Tempest-Avenger, though it risks consuming her mind with vengeful emotions.
Aiz serves as an inspiration and trainer for the novice adventurer Bell Cranel, after she saved his life early in his career. Intrigued by his mysterious and rapid growth, she secretly trains him in swordsmanship, displaying a rare and genuine happiness in their interactions. Their bond challenges her worldview, as does her encounter with the Xenos, sentient monsters who display human emotions. This forces her to reconsider her absolute hatred of monsters and conclude that she must judge for herself whom to consider a monster.
Within the Loki Familia, Aiz shares close bonds with her patron deity Loki, who is doting and possessive; the elven mage Riveria Ljos Alf, who acts as a maternal mentor; the Amazon sisters Tione and Tiona Hiryute; the young elf Lefiya Viridis; and the captain Finn Deimne and dwarf Gareth Landrock, who also serve as mentors. Her journey gradually shifts from solitary vengeance toward a more nuanced understanding of strength and empathy, though her resolve to one day slay the One-Eyed Black Dragon remains unyielding.
