Description
Makima is a central figure in Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, serving as the head of the Public Safety Devil Hunter organization's Special Division 4. On the surface, she is a composed and authoritative leader who manages the division's operations and personally recruits the protagonist Denji after witnessing his transformation into Chainsaw Man. Her true identity, however, is the Control Devil, a being who embodies humanity's fear of being dominated or conquered. This nature defines her every action.

Her background as a devil allows her to possess immense physical strength, enhanced senses, and the ability to make contracts with humans and other devils. She can dominate any being she considers inferior to herself, controlling their thoughts and actions completely. If she is not fully convinced of her superiority over a target, she may defeat them in combat to prove it, after which she can then exert her control. She also has a contract with the Prime Minister of Japan that redirects any fatal harm inflicted upon her onto a random Japanese citizen as a disease or accident, rendering her effectively immortal as long as the country's population exists. Additionally, she can summon and wield the powers of devils she has dominated, such as the Angel Devil, Future Devil, Snake Devil, and others, by manifesting them through chains connected to her body.

In the Reze Arc, Makima continues to act as Denji's enigmatic superior. She takes him on a movie date, during which she reassures him that he possesses a genuine heart capable of emotion, a moment that hints at a more layered personality beneath her cold exterior. Her motivations are rooted in her desire to use the Chainsaw Devil's unique ability to devour devils and erase their concepts from existence, thereby creating a world free of dangerous devils under her own vision of order. This goal drives her to manipulate Denji, keeping him close and controlling the people around him to prevent any interference.

Makima's key relationships in this arc revolve around Denji, whom she treats with a mixture of maternal care and calculated dominance. She is aware of his feelings for her and uses them to maintain his loyalty. Her relationship with Reze is one of direct opposition: Reze offers Denji a chance at freedom and genuine affection, which threatens Makima's control. In the story's climax, Makima intercepts Reze as she attempts to meet Denji, ordering the Angel Devil to kill her, thereby eliminating the threat to her hold over Denji. She also interacts with other division members such as Aki Hayakawa, Power, and Beam, all of whom operate under her authority, though she keeps her true nature and objectives hidden from most.

The Reze Arc adds depth to Makima's character by revealing rare glimpses of vulnerability and complexity. While she remains a static, overarching force of manipulation and power, the narrative shows her capacity for fleeting expressions that suggest an inner world beyond her controlling exterior. Her personality is marked by a chilling calmness, an analytical mind, and an absolute belief in her right to dominate. She views humans and devils alike as tools or pets, yet she is also drawn to the idea of being loved, a contradiction that makes her both terrifying and compelling. Her abilities, combined with her strategic cunning, establish her as one of the most formidable and inscrutable characters in the story.
