Description
Galgali, also known as the Violence Fiend, is a significant supporting character in the Chainsaw Man narrative, specifically as a member of Public Safety's Special Division 4. His role extends into the events of the Reze arc, where he participates in the confrontation against the Bomb Devil. Known for a stark contrast between his fearsome name and his gentle demeanor, Galgali is a fiend, a devil that has possessed a dead human body. What makes him unique is that he retains an unusually large amount of his human host's brain, which directly influences his personality and capacities.

In terms of background, very little is known about the life of the human whose body Galgali inhabits. The human host died under unknown circumstances, and the only concrete memory Galgali retains from that former life is that Makima saved him. This has instilled in him a profound, though perhaps manipulated, sense of gratitude towards the powerful devil hunter. He is often seen in the company of his colleague Kobeni Higashiyama, with whom he forms a consistent pairing after the events involving the Katana Man.

Galgali's personality is one of his most defining traits. Despite being the Violence Fiend, he is exceedingly polite, calm, and straightforward. He has a deep-seated love for peace, often expressing that "Love & Peace is the best". This kindness is shown in various interactions, such as apologizing to the Shark Fiend Beam after striking him in self-defense and mistakenly urging the Spider Devil, whom he thought was a human woman, to evacuate from a dangerous area. He attributes his gentle nature to the remnants of his human brain, a rarity among fiends who are typically driven solely by devilish instincts. He cannot eat because of his mask, but he finds joy in treating others to food and experiencing their reactions.

Within the story of the Reze arc, Galgali plays a crucial if not central role as a supporting fighter. In response to Aki Hayakawa's call for reinforcements against Reze, he and Kobeni arrive to help. He demonstrates his power by launching a powerful kick at Reze, which cracks the ground upon her defense but fails to injure her. Recognizing they are outmatched, he strategically retreats with Kobeni, only to reappear and save Aki's life by intercepting one of Reze's missile explosions. He later aids in the attempt to subdue Reze, even suggesting a handicap for her when she is low on blood. He ultimately observes the main brawl between Denji, Beam, and Reze from the sidelines.

His key relationships are primarily with his colleague Kobeni and his benefactor Makima. With Kobeni, he acts as a patient and reassuring partner, buying her ice cream and listening to her stories, providing a calming presence for the nervous devil hunter. In contrast, his loyalty to Makima is absolute, based solely on his fragmented memory that she saved him, highlighting the enigmatic control she holds over her subordinates. His relationship with Aki is also noteworthy, as Aki finds himself thinking he would like to be friends with Galgali, a significant moment given Aki's general animosity towards devils.

Regarding development, Galgali's character arc extends beyond the Reze arc into the International Assassins arc, where he meets his end. His development is tragically cut short when most of Special Division 4 is transported to Hell. Facing the Primal Fear known as the Darkness Devil, Galgali makes the ultimate decision. He asks Kobeni to remove his mask, unleashing his full, unrestrained power. Without the mask that suppresses his strength, he transforms into a much taller, muscular figure with spiky black hair and four empty eyes. He valiantly charges the Darkness Devil to buy time for his allies, but is mercilessly killed in the battle, dying a heroic death.

Galgali possesses several notable abilities as a fiend. His primary power is enhanced strength, which is so immense that he is forced to wear a special poison-dispensing gas mask to keep it in check. Even while suppressed, his kicks are strong enough to crack concrete and briefly fend off powerful foes like Reze. He is also resistant to his own mask's poison. In combat, his main skill set is hand-to-hand combat, relying on powerful punches and devastating kicks. When the situation demands, he can perform a body transformation, partially removing his mask's suppression to enlarge and swell specific body parts, like his leg, for an attack of even greater power. However, fiends cannot form contracts with devils, limiting his abilities to his physical prowess.
