Description
Beam is a Shark Fiend who works as a Public Safety Devil Hunter as a member of the Special Division 4 in Tokyo. As a fiend, he is a devil that has taken over a human corpse, which grants him a humanoid form but with the distinct features of his original devil nature. In Beam’s case, the top half of his head is replaced by a shark’s snout and fin, and he has no visible eyes. He is a muscular young man with short, spiky black hair and very sharp teeth, and his preferred attire is exclusively a pair of swimming trunks.
Beam’s personality is highly eccentric, naive, and innocent. His defining trait is an intense, fanatical respect and devotion to the Chainsaw Devil, which extends to Denji, whom he constantly refers to as Lord Chainsaw. This devotion makes him incredibly loyal and willing to follow Denji’s orders no matter how reckless or strange they may be. He is also shown to be enthusiastic about fighting, such as when he eagerly dives into a horde of zombies to devour them, and generally approaches combat with a simple, straightforward joy. Despite his low intelligence and violent nature as a fiend, which makes normal conversation difficult, his loyalty to Denji is absolute. Although he showed great fear when confronted by the power of the Bomb Devil, Reze, he did not hesitate to fight back when cornered in order to protect Denji.
Beam’s primary motivation is his worship of the Chainsaw Devil and his desire to serve Denji. He is driven by a need to protect him, offering his own blood to revive Denji and acting as a shield against powerful enemies, even if it leads to his own severe injury or death. In the story of the Reze Arc, Beam plays a crucial role as Denji’s protector and ally. When Power is temporarily removed from duty, Beam is assigned to be Denji’s partner. He secretly follows Denji on his dates with Reze and is the one who intervenes to save Denji’s life when Reze reveals her true nature as the Bomb Devil and attacks him. Using his enhanced sense of smell, he immediately recognizes Reze as a Bomb Devil hybrid, an ally of the Gun Devil. He fights Reze to allow Denji to escape, and despite being severely wounded by her explosions, he manages to carry Denji to safety. Later in the arc, after Denji is revived, Beam provides crucial information on how the Chainsaw Devil used to move by using its chains to swing between buildings. Denji then forces Beam to fully transform into his giant shark form, mounts him, and uses his chainsaw chains as reins. Together, they launch a combined attack on Reze and her ally, the Typhoon Devil, successfully killing the Typhoon Devil. Beam ultimately takes a direct hit from Reze while protecting Denji in his mouth, incapacitating himself but saving Denji once again.
Beam’s key relationships are centered on his devotion to Denji, whom he follows with blind loyalty.
