Description
Fra YVS, also known simply as YVS, is a central figure in the world of Shaman King Flowers, serving as the overarching antagonist. He holds the distinguished and powerful title of the Shaman King from the year 1500 AD, making him the immediate predecessor to the current Shaman King, Asakura Hao. His physical appearance is distinct and symbolic. In his compact spirit form, he resembles a small golden pyramid with a single green eye and a pair of arms and legs. However, his true form is that of a hunch-backed humanoid figure draped in a white cloak and wearing a horned mask, often seen wielding a scepter capped with a pyramid that echoes his smaller form.

The personality of Fra YVS is defined by a profound avarice and an unshakable belief in his own work. He is an unabashed elitist who holds a deep disdain for those he considers to be of middle or lower class, once expressing to his ally Yohsuke his hatred for mixing with common people. YVS views the modern capitalist society, which he is credited with creating, as a perfect utopia. His primary motivation stems from a fierce determination to protect this status quo at any cost. He is deeply conservative in his role as Shaman King, convinced that the world he has shaped is ideal and that any change would be for the worse. This puts him in direct opposition to Hao, whose plans for the future of humanity threaten YVS's creation. It is said that YVS hates Hao more than any other member of the G8, a group of former Shaman Kings.

His role in the story is that of a manipulative and calculating mastermind. YVS is a notoriously underhanded individual who did not win his Shaman Fight through superior spiritual strength, but through bribery, blackmail, and manipulating his opponents' families and social standing, a method that disgusted the Patch Officiants of his era. With his own power waning, he operates largely through agents, the most significant being Kamogawa Yohsuke. He originally encountered a younger, suicidal Yohsuke, taking advantage of the boy's desperation and lack of self-worth. By offering him power in the form of supernatural cards, YVS manipulated Yohsuke into a massive debt, effectively turning him into his primary enforcer and tool for enacting his will in the world.

Key relationships are central to understanding YVS's function in the plot. His partnership with Kamogawa Yohsuke is built on manipulation and debt, with Yohsuke carrying out violent tasks such as participating in the destruction of Patch Village on YVS's behalf. His most significant adversarial relationship is with Asakura Hao. Recognizing Hao as an infant as the greatest threat to his regime, YVS attempted to have him assassinated. When that failed and he foresaw Hao would win the next Shaman Fight, YVS began preparing for the Flower of Maize tournament, a competition among former Shaman Kings, hoping to ultimately usurp his successor.

In terms of development, YVS remains a largely static figure, his will fixed on maintaining his version of utopia. However, his history provides the context for his actions in the present. His physical skull is shown to still exist within the King's Sanctuary, where Hao encounters it centuries later. The character also has a complex origin; in earlier material, he presents himself as a God-Class Robot created by a secret society to control the world, who broke free to seek his own freedom. This backstory informs his greedy, transactional nature, where he treats money as a food source and is constantly hungry for it.

Regarding his notable abilities, Fra YVS possesses immense power as a Shaman King, having once merged with the Great Spirit as his guardian ghost. However, his most distinctive and frequently used powers manifest in the form of his YVS Cards. These cards grant a wide and versatile range of supernatural abilities, from rewinding time to unleashing massive destructive forces like his most powerful card, Obelisk. Despite his divine status, YVS prefers to control humanity from the shadows using cunning, agents, and these cards, rather than relying on his raw power alone.
