Description
Makoto Soda is a Japanese defender from the Osaka prefecture who first appears as a third-year student at Azuma 1st Junior High School, the representative team of Osaka. He wears the jersey number seven and is known by the nicknames Ace Killer and Kamisori Fighter. Soda is a physically powerful and fearless player whose style combines raw aggression with cunning. He is adept at using tackles that can injure opponents without drawing the referee’s attention, a tactic he employs to disrupt key rivals. His primary special technique is the Razor Blade Shot, or Kamisori Shoot, a powerful and precise shot that often accounts for a large portion of his team’s goals. He also possesses a Razor Blade Pass and a Razor Blade Tackle.
Soda has an impulsive and hot‑tempered personality, similar to other aggressive players like Kojiro Hyuga and Alan Pascal, and he does not hesitate to engage in confrontations. Despite this, he is a dedicated athlete who takes his training seriously and is a natural motivator for his teammates. He is serious and reserved off the pitch, focusing on executing strategies through practice and repetition. His motivation stems from a desire to win and to continually improve his game, even if it means putting his own safety at risk.
In the story, Soda first becomes a major obstacle for Tsubasa Ozora’s Nankatsu team during the national middle school tournament. He gives Tsubasa a hard time and even injures his leg, but Nankatsu ultimately prevails. Despite this rivalry, Soda is selected to join the All Japan Junior Youth team for the International Junior Youth Tournament in Paris, where he serves as a supporting defender. During the tournament, he is sent off in the match against France after receiving two yellow cards while marking Napoleon.
Soda’s development continues beyond the Junior Youth Arc. In the World Youth storyline, he is initially dropped from the national team by Coach Gamo because his playing style is considered too predictable. Determined to return, he undergoes additional training and refines his game, eventually earning his place back and contributing to the Asian preliminaries. In later arcs, he joins Gamba Osaka in the J‑League. Throughout his journey, Soda evolves from a purely aggressive, one‑dimensional defender into a more complete and adaptable player while retaining his fierce competitive edge.
