Description
Fuku is a cabbit—a rabbit-cat hybrid—created by scientist Washu to serve as the biological computer unit and primary power source for the spaceship Kamidake II. She is regarded as the younger sister of the cabbit Ryo-Ohki. Washu developed Fuku at Tenchi Masaki’s request to protect his exceptionally unlucky friend, Seina Yamada, during his Galaxy Police service. For Fuku’s core, Washu used the soul of Widow, a recently executed mass murderer, erasing all memories from that past life. Subconsciously, Fuku retained certain skills, such as detecting assassin bioroids invisible to standard sensors.
Fuku first appeared as an egg aboard the Kamidake II, hatching during Seina Yamada’s travels. Seina named her "Fuku," meaning "good luck" in Japanese, to counter his own misfortune. Physically resembling a juvenile Ryo-Ohki, she wears a small bell around her neck—a gift from Seina. This bell likely originated from Chibi, the cat whose remains integrated with Ryo-Ohki, influencing both cabbits’ forms. Like Ryo-Ohki, Fuku loves carrots and possesses the latent ability to evolve into a humanoid form through nurturing and emotional growth.
As the Kamidake II’s core system, Fuku’s emotional state directly governs the ship’s energy output and performance. Initially, she froze in combat, limiting effectiveness. Her deep devotion to Seina, who showed her unconditional care and faith, allowed her to overcome this fear. When Seina or his crew faced peril, Fuku’s intense protective instincts unleashed immense power, enhancing the ship’s capabilities. Her power management duties were later shared with Kiriko Masaki Jurai after Kiriko bonded with the second-generation Royal Tree, Miyuki.
A significant incident involved Fuku and the Kamidake II being captured by a corrupt Galaxy Army faction aiding the pirate Shank. They imprisoned Fuku in a stasis field for study, creating five flawed clones. Seina rescued Fuku and the clones, though the clones’ later fate is unknown. Fuku also played a critical role in correcting the timeline, traveling back from the future with an older Noike to ensure a message to Mihoshi Kuramitsu’s family remained unchanged. This intervention preserved the sequence of events leading to her meeting with Seina.
Fuku exhibits a sensitive and affectionate personality, mirroring Ryo-Ohki’s need for love and attention. She bonds closely with Neju Na Melmas, often staying with her when not beside Seina, and later provides companionship to Acha, a peerless Wau child. Fuku displays a fondness for rough play and mild masochism, such as enjoying being buried in sand or playfully thrown during beach activities. Designed for independent evolution and superior combat capability, Fuku inherently surpasses Ryo-Ohki in performance and adaptability, especially in merging with Juraian treeships. Her experiences across space battles and diverse interactions accelerated her maturation, potentially faster than Ryo-Ohki’s under Kenshi Masaki.
In broader lore, Fuku is identified as the reincarnation of Yayoi Schwael from the *Paradise War* novels. By the conclusion of the *GXP* series, Fuku’s integration with the Kamidake II and Seina’s ownership of the ship aligned her with Seina’s political marriage to Amane, Kiriko, Ryoko, and Neju, implying a union with him.
