Movie
Description
Yasha descends from demon ancestors once entrusted with delivering offerings to the gods' annual gathering at Izumo-taisha Shrine. Ōkuninushi, Izumo's supreme deity, stripped his family of this revered duty, diminishing their status. Seeking to reclaim his clan's honor, Yasha targets Kanna as a rival, attempting to seize her sacred bracelet and offering gourd.
He resembles a 12- or 13-year-old boy with light orange skin and short, messy dark mint green hair. His eyes flash a yellowish-amber shade. Two short light orange-gray horns protrude from his head, complemented by elf-like ears adorned with gold hoop earrings. His features include an upward-facing snaggletooth and claws on his hands and feet. He wears a red bead necklace and a split jacket with a small yellow tie at the hem, paired with matching purple-gray shorts. Large golden rings encircle his ankles.
Initially quiet and reserved, Yasha's gentle exterior conceals underlying strength and courage. He possesses a strong intuitive sense, perceiving hidden motives and emotions in others, which helps him detect danger. This intuition drives his protective actions, like intervening when other children face bullying. Deeply attuned to others' feelings, his introverted nature makes him secretive about his own thoughts and emotions, often withdrawing into introspection.
Yasha's journey to Izumo sparks significant change. After challenging and defeating Kanna in a race, he boasts of his superior speed and quest capability. Yet, he shifts from antagonism to alliance, joining Kanna and Shiro to collect offerings from deities across Japan. Vulnerability surfaces as he shares his clan's backstory with Kanna and later reveals his past interactions with her mother, Yayoi, describing a race against her and his deep respect for her as the previous Idaten.
A pivotal moment occurs when a malevolent spirit impersonates Yayoi to deceive Kanna. Yasha recognizes the imposture, declaring the real Yayoi would never manipulate others. Confronting the entity to protect Kanna, he sustains injuries, solidifying his loyalty and marking his growth from self-focused rival to selfless ally.
By the quest's end, Yasha fully embraces his role as Kanna's supporter. He pleads with Ōkuninushi to reunite Kanna with her mother as a reward, demonstrating deepened empathy for her emotional well-being. Though denied, Yasha remains by Kanna's side as they return to Tokyo, symbolizing his acceptance of a new purpose beyond his clan's lost status.
