Description
Mitsuru Hiriya is a thirty-year-old man with a pale complexion and a gaunt, tired appearance. He has been let go from his temporary job and is living in poverty, circumstances that have left him deeply embittered toward society. His personal life is also in disarray, as his favorite idol announces her marriage, and he is mistakenly pursued by police after being confused with a violent criminal. These compounding frustrations cause him to harbor a profound resentment against the world around him.
When a mysterious black light from space strikes him, Hiriya gains formidable psychic abilities, which he decides to use as a tool for revenge. His motivation is to destroy the Earth, believing that the world has wronged him and that he has nothing left to lose. In the story, he serves as the primary antagonist, standing in direct opposition to Shinnosuke Nohara, a kindergartner who has been granted telekinetic powers by a white light from the same cosmic event. Hiriya's powers are more combat-oriented than Shinnosuke's, allowing him to fire energy bullets and manifest other destructive abilities. He initially holds the upper hand in their confrontations.
Key relationships include his conflict with Shinnosuke, but also a significant moment with Shinnosuke’s parents, Hiroshi and Misae Nohara. Their words of comfort and support toward Hiriya transcend the typical villain‑hero dynamic, offering a moment of empathy that resonates with the adult audience who may have faced similar disappointments in life. This interaction suggests a subtle development in Hiriya’s character, hinting at the possibility of understanding or change, even if his destructive path remains the core of his role.
Notable abilities stem from the dark psychic powers he receives, which include telekinesis, flight, and the capacity to generate energy projectiles. His power set is aggressive and well suited for large‑scale destruction, reflecting his inner rage and desire to lash out. Despite the fantastical nature of these abilities, Hiriya is grounded in a very real sense of disillusionment, making him a villain born from societal neglect rather than pure evil.
