Description
Lanak is a major character in the series Unnamed Memory and serves as the primary antagonist of its second volume. A male mage with white hair and green eyes, he is the king of Cuscull, a country where many magicians reside. His background includes a long-standing connection with Tinasha, the Witch of the Azure Moon, though the exact nature of their past acquaintance is slowly revealed over the course of the story. Lanak's personality is marked by cunning, ambition, and a willingness to manipulate others for his own ends. He views Tinasha not as an ally or equal but as a tool to be used in his schemes, a fact he eventually admits without remorse. His primary motivation is to seize control of the mainland by breaking the power of the Four Great Nations Alliance. To achieve this, he plots to use Tinasha's immense magical abilities, even attempting to assassinate her earlier in order to steal her power. When that fails, he forces her into a false marriage, planning to complete a ritual in the ancient ruins of Tulddar that would allow him to dominate the continent.
In the story, Lanak's role is that of a calculating antagonist whose actions directly threaten not only the kingdom of Farsas but the entire region. His machinations draw Oscar, the crown prince and later king of Farsas, along with the other rulers, into a conflict that culminates in a battle at the ruins of Tulddar. During this confrontation, Lanak attempts to use Tinasha's magic to reconstruct the ancient city, but she ultimately breaks free from his control and defies him. His key relationships are marked by enmity: he is a bitter adversary to Oscar, who eventually kills him in the final clash, and his treatment of Tinasha as a mere instrument drives much of the tension. His development is primarily that of a persistent threat whose overconfidence and disregard for others lead to his downfall. Lanak possesses notable magical abilities, including knowledge of ancient spells and rituals, the capacity to command loyal magicians, and enough power to attempt the reconstruction of a lost city. However, his reliance on controlling Tinasha's strength ultimately proves to be his undoing.
