Description
Lain Tendō, also known by her true name Reine Tendō, is a sage and an origin blood vampire from the anime My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered. She has very long red hair and red eyes, and she is often seen wearing a red dress. As one of the great sages who rule the world she inhabits, she holds a position of immense power and authority, having earned the title of sage through her own past adventures. She is also the highest order of vampire, sometimes called the No-Life Queen or the Queen of the Undead, granting her a truly immortal body that regenerates from any injury almost instantly, regardless of how severe the damage is. This makes her effectively unkillable by conventional means within her own world.

Lain is a contemplative and weary character who has grown tired of her own immortality. She has lived for so long that she has become fascinated by the idea of death itself, viewing it as a novelty she has never truly experienced. This fascination drives her primary motivation: to find something or someone capable of ending her eternal existence. When she learns of Yogiri Takatou and his rumored instant death ability, she becomes intensely curious and decides to test his power herself, wondering if he is truly capable of killing her.

In the story, Lain first appears as a main antagonist in the first volume. Her help is requested by other powers to deal with the mysterious deaths occurring in her territory, deaths caused by Yogiri's ability. However, she soon shifts from an adversary to a supporting figure. Rather than opposing Yogiri, she becomes fascinated by him and devises a test. She creates a copy or clone of herself and sends it to confront him. The clone is killed by Yogiri's power, confirming his ability to end even her immortal life. Later, her original body is killed by Yogiri in another dimension. However, she survives this apparent death through a pre-planned reincarnation scheme, which she had prepared as a contingency. This reincarnation allows her to persist beyond her defeat.

Her relationship with Yogiri is central to her role. She does not bear hatred toward him after her defeat; instead, her interest in him only deepens. She becomes a reluctant ally and observer, intrigued by his nature as the embodiment of death. Another key motivation is her desire to save her sister, which is hinted at in some sources as a driving force behind her actions. Her relationship with the other sage, Sion, is one of professional coexistence, though they have distinct personalities and methods.

In terms of development, Lain begins as a powerful and seemingly antagonistic figure who is secure in her immortality. Her encounter with Yogiri shatters that certainty and introduces genuine risk into her existence. This experience changes her perspective, leading her to become more invested in the unfolding events and the nature of Yogiri's power. Her notable abilities include her status as an origin blood vampire, which grants her superhuman strength, speed, and near-instantaneous regeneration. She is also a highly accomplished magic user, befitting her rank as a sage. Her immortality is her defining trait, but it is also the source of her ennui and her ultimate vulnerability when faced with Yogiri's absolute ability.
