TV-Series
Description
Kurt is a dung beetle who prefers to be acknowledged as a rose beetle, a preference that hints at a certain pride and desire for a more elegant identity. He is physically strong and routinely uses his might to assist Maya and her companions during their travels and challenges. His personality is outwardly gruff and a little irritable, yet beneath that blunt surface he is genuinely good-hearted, loyal, and always ready to help. In the animated series, he is portrayed living inside a rose together with his wife, a character created exclusively for the television adaptation and not found in the original novels, though this domestic arrangement was partially cut from some European broadcasts. His name varies in English-language versions, where he is occasionally called Beasley instead of Kurt, but the beetle himself remains the same sturdy, dependable figure. Kurt’s main motivation is to support Maya’s ventures, whether by lending his strength to a difficult task or by stepping in to rescue someone from peril, much as he saves Maya from the spider in the original story. His role across the series is that of a recurring ally who appears whenever a situation calls for raw power or a touch of gruff encouragement. While he does not undergo profound personal change, his consistent dependability reinforces the importance of looking beyond rough exteriors to see a reliable friend. His most notable ability is his considerable physical power for an insect of his size, which allows him to move heavy objects and hold his ground in tense moments.
