Description
Genjou Kakouton is Kyoshou Academy's key fighter, acting as Moutoku Sousou's primary lieutenant and closest confidant. He possesses dark skin, long black hair, a goatee beard, and consistently wears sandals, a beanie, and a green coat. Hakufu Sonsaku affectionately nicknames him "Basics Ton-chan," reflecting his combat emphasis on fundamental techniques, believing modern fighters neglect core street-fighting principles. This philosophy combines with a strong sense of honor, leading him to repair battle-damaged environments like streets or walls, which he considers sacred grounds.

Initially appearing in manga arcs observing artifact transfers and engaging Hakufu after mutual combat assistance, he stresses the importance of basics during their encounter. In early anime seasons, he participates in the Great Toushi Tournament, targeting Hakufu's legs to secure victory before being swiftly defeated by Shimei Ryomou. His loyalty to Sousou is absolute, demonstrated when defending Sousou results in a kunai injury to his left eye, mirroring his historical counterpart Xiahou Dun. This injury later contributes to Sousou's uncontrollable dragon manifestation.

Following the death of comrade Houkou Kakuka, Kakouton assumes greater responsibilities within Kyoshou, effectively becoming second-in-command. He coordinates tactical operations like the capture of Unchou Kan-u but frequently clashes with strategist Chuutatsu Shibai over unauthorized maneuvers. His commitment to Sousou's well-being culminates in releasing Kan-u, recognizing her influence on Sousou's instability. This act leads to a confrontation where Sousou, under external spiritual influence, severely injures Kakouton's hand.

Recovering from these injuries prevents Kakouton from participating in later tournaments. He experiences memory loss alongside Housen Ryofu in *Great Guardians*, requiring rescue by Hakufu and revisiting their past connection. Despite physical limitations, he continues supporting allies by providing transportation and resources for critical missions. He maintains his role within the narrative continuity of the OVA series *Western Wolves*.

His fighting prowess is officially ranked C-Class, with assessments noting his capability to challenge Special A-Class opponents. Respected across rival schools for his strength and principles, his relationships include a one-sided attraction to Hakufu and deep, enduring bonds with Sousou and Kakuka, whom he memorializes after their losses.
