Description
Gobwa is a supporting character in the narrative of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. She is a female Kijin, also known as an ogre, who serves as a loyal and capable member of the military forces in the nation of Tempest. Her physical appearance is that of a tall, slender woman with short blue hair accented by a red streak across her bangs. She has red eyes and two small white horns on her forehead, characteristic of her race. Her typical attire consists of a crimson uniform with gold trim, which she wears with a belt and gloves.
Gobwa originates from the original goblin village that Rimuru Tempest first encountered after being reincarnated. At that time, she was an unnamed and ordinary hobgoblin. After receiving a name from Rimuru, a process that grants significant power and evolution to monsters, she swore loyalty to him. She was initially placed under the command of Benimaru, the leader of the Kijin, where she served in his unit.
Her most significant transformation occurred during Rimuru’s Harvest Festival, an event that followed his evolution into a Demon Lord. As a result of the gift of power released during this event, combined with her own strong desire to become stronger and serve alongside the ogres she admired, Gobwa underwent a dramatic evolution. She transcended her hobgoblin origins and became a Kijin, a much more powerful and human-like race. This evolution greatly enhanced her combat abilities, raising her to a rank of Disaster class or higher, placing her on a level comparable to high-ranking spirits or dragons.
In the social and military structure of Tempest, Gobwa holds a position of significant responsibility. Her primary role is as the captain of the Crimson Corps, an elite unit of three hundred Kijin soldiers, all of whom possess considerable strength. She leads this unit directly under Benimaru's command. Her duties include not only leading her troops in battle but also acting as a temporary commander in Benimaru's absence, a task she is trusted with because he has thoroughly drilled tactical theory into her. She is also entrusted with the protection of key individuals, often seen standing guard during important national meetings, including that of the leader, Rimuru.
In terms of personality, Gobwa is defined by her deep and unwavering loyalty to both Rimuru and Benimaru, carrying out their orders without question. Her temperament is notably battle-oriented, similar to that of her superior Benimaru. She possesses a pragmatic and straightforward approach to combat, sometimes to the point of prioritizing immediate victory over strict adherence to orders in the heat of the moment.
Her key relationships are primarily professional and hierarchical. She is fiercely loyal to Rimuru as the founder of Tempest and to Benimaru as her direct commander. Her dynamic with another of Tempest's executives, Shion, is noted as a point of friendly rivalry, as Gobwa is determined to train her own soldiers to not fall short of Shion’s unit.
A notable subplot in Gobwa’s personal development involves romance and the theme of unrequited love. For a time, she harbored strong feelings for her commander, Benimaru. However, she experienced a significant emotional shock when Benimaru eventually married two other women, Momiji and Albis. This experience of lost love creates an unexpected bond with Phobio, a warrior from the Beast Kingdom of Eurazania. Phobio, who was deeply in love with Albis, also lost her to Benimaru. Through this shared sorrow, Gobwa and Phobio are drawn together and eventually develop a romantic relationship.
