Description
Hyōryū, whose name translates to Ice Dragon, is the GGG Super-AI Vehicle Machine designated G.B.R.-02. Activated in 2004, he is the elder of two sibling units, coming online five seconds before his brother EnRyū. His primary alternate form is that of a large, mobile crane, though he can transform into a humanoid robot mode for combat and rescue operations. He is a foundational member of the GGG Mobile Unit.

In terms of personality, Hyōryū is defined by his calm, collected, and analytical demeanor. This measured and calculating attitude stands in stark contrast to his brother EnRyū, who is much more excitable and flamboyant. This difference in temperament often leads to the siblings bickering, but it also makes them an effective team, with Hyōryū’s cool logic balancing EnRyū’s fiery passion. This dynamic is a direct reflection of their elemental motifs, with Hyōryū’s ice-based abilities complementing EnRyū’s fire-based powers. A core motivation for Hyōryū is the protection of Earth and humanity, a mission he pursues with unwavering dedication alongside his brother and the rest of the GGG team.

Hyōryū’s role in the story is that of a key support and combat unit. Initially, he and EnRyū were unable to perform System Change into their robot forms and were deployed in their vehicle modes for rescue and support tasks. During a critical battle against the Zonder Robo EI-06, the emotional energy of Mamoru Amami triggered their latent abilities, allowing them to fully transform for the first time and actively join the fight. Following this, they became regular combatants, often working alongside GaoGaiGar. His most significant role is in combination with other GGG units. By performing Symmetrical Docking with EnRyū, the two brothers form the powerful robot ChouRyūJin. Later in the series, he also gains the ability to perform Cross-Symmetrical Docking with RaiRyū to form GenRyūJin.

His key relationships are central to his character. The most important is with his twin brother, EnRyū, with whom he shares an unbreakable bond both as siblings and as teammates. Their synchronization, measured as their SympaRate, is crucial for their combination into ChouRyūJin. He also works closely with other members of the GGG Mobile Unit, such as the ninja-like Volfogg, and the cyborg pilot Guy Shishiou, whose courage often inspires the AI robots. Hyōryū experiences significant development over the course of the series. He begins as an incomplete AI unable to transform, matures into a frontline fighter, and eventually receives upgrades that prepare him for even greater threats. Following the battle with EI-01, his standard Freezing Rifle is upgraded to an Ul-Tech Beam Rifle to effectively combat the Machine Primevals.

Hyōryū possesses a wide array of notable abilities. In robot mode, his primary weapons include the Chest Thriller, which unleashes freezing winds from his chest that can be used for both extinguishing fires and offensive attacks. He wields a Freezing Gun as a sidearm. His signature equipment is the Power Crane mounted on his shoulder. This crane can function as an extending ladder, houses a Freezing Rifle (later an Ul-Tech Beam Rifle), and can be detached for use as a large tonfa in close-quarters combat. He can also utilize an optional Pencil Launcher, which fires projectiles that release a stiffening gel, perfect for rescue missions to prevent collapsing structures or deactivate bombs. His vehicular crane mode allows for heavy lifting and rapid transportation. Alongside his brother, his ultimate technique is the Level Infinite Supernova, a devastating point-blank chest blast that requires absolute synchronization between the two units.
