TV-Series
Description
Jō is a supporting character from the anime Association Robot Goku, also known as Monkey Typhoon. He is an asobot, a type of robot whose name is a portmanteau of association and robot, and he serves as one of the primary companions to the series' main character, Goku.
As a worker-class asobot, Jō belongs to the second generation of these robots, which are typically marked with Arabic numerals and possess green eyes. His design is distinctive, as his mouth is perpetually covered in the style of a ninja, making it a feature that is never seen throughout the series.
Jō's most notable physiological requirement is his acute need for water; he requires substantial amounts to survive, and Goku himself has declared that Jō is virtually invincible when fighting in an underwater environment. For combat, Jō wields a weapon known as the Feather Sword. Like his companions, Jō embarks on the central quest to collect the legendary 49 keys that are required to prevent the world's destruction.
Throughout the journey, Jō demonstrates the capacity for growth and evolution inherent to asobots. After successfully collecting six of the 49 keys, his appearance undergoes a significant transformation. This evolution also empowers his primary weapon, upgrading the Feather Sword into a more formidable Feather Blade. His role in the story is that of a steadfast ally and bandit companion to Goku, and his key relationships are with the other members of their group, including the human Sanzo, the young girl Suzie, and fellow asobots Goku and Tongo. Demonstrating the strong bond formed on their voyage, Jō ultimately chooses to return to the past alongside Goku and the rest of his friends, embodying the group's creed that they should never abandon each other.
