Description
Hiroshi Ichikawa is a human boy who lives in an apartment building called Arama-so with his older sister, Utako. Following the loss of their parents, Utako takes on the responsibility of caring for her younger brother while attending school, creating a household where the siblings rely primarily on each other. In some adaptations, Hiroshi is described as being bullied at school and having few friends before his life takes an unexpected turn.

Hiroshi becomes a key figure in the story when he meets the series protagonist, the prince of Monster Land, after the prince and his three companions arrive in the human world and settle in the same neighborhood. Despite initial reservations, Hiroshi forms a close friendship with the prince, who comes to regard him as a chief human confidant. This bond is particularly significant because the prince becomes Hiroshi's first true friend, marking a turning point in the boy's previously solitary existence. Through this friendship, Hiroshi is drawn into the conflicts between the group from Monster Land and various antagonistic forces, including the demon organization Demonish and its assassins who seek to disrupt the peace between worlds.

Hiroshi's role extends beyond that of a passive observer. In the 1981 film Kaibutsu-kun: Invitation to Monster Land, he accompanies the prince to Monster Land after receiving news of the king's illness. During this visit, Hiroshi looks directly at the king and is turned to stone, creating a crisis that drives much of the film's plot as the main characters race to reverse the petrification and restore him. This event underscores how deeply Hiroshi has become integrated into the extraordinary events surrounding his supernatural friends, moving from being simply a neighbor to becoming an active participant—and sometimes a victim—of the conflicts between the human and monster realms.

Hiroshi is consistently depicted wearing a yellow hat marked with the letter H, paired with a teal shirt, navy blue jeans, and light shoes, giving him a distinctive and easily recognizable appearance.
