Movie
Description
Hazuki Fujiwara, a main character, is introduced as the childhood friend of Doremi Harukaze. She has fair skin, long brown hair usually styled in a ponytail secured by an orange bow, and wears round glasses over her brown eyes. Her early outfit consists of a white buttoned shirt beneath a light yellow and orange vest, paired with an orange pleated skirt. This wardrobe later shifts to a light yellow and white blouse with a light orange skirt.
Born February 14th into a wealthy family, Hazuki lives with her parents and Baaya, the family maid who has served since her mother's childhood and acts as a grandmotherly figure. Initially shy, sensitive, and lacking confidence due to overprotective parenting, she struggles to openly express her feelings, especially her longstanding affection for Masaru Yada, a boy she met in kindergarten when he retrieved her hat from a river. This sheltered life contributes to a perception of naivety, though she possesses a strong sense of justice and can become stubborn or threatening when witnessing unfairness.
After witnessing Majorika use magic, Hazuki becomes an apprentice witch alongside Aiko Senoo, designated the Orange Witch Apprentice. Her transformation phrase is "Pretty Witch Hazuki tchi!", and her primary spell incantation is "Paipai Ponpoi Puwapuwa Puu!". Despite initial transformation trouble caused by her glasses snagging her dress, she shows considerable spellcasting aptitude, noted as the most skilled among the initial trio. Her magical journey involves significant responsibilities, including helping care for Hana, the infant destined to become the next Witch Queen, after the group witnesses her birth. Hazuki must balance these duties with her human life, filled with mother-encouraged activities like violin lessons and ballet.
Hazuki experiences significant personal growth throughout the series, evolving from a reserved, anxious girl into someone more confident and self-assured. While retaining her inherent kindness and motherly demeanor towards younger characters like Hana and Pop, she learns to assert herself honestly, capable of bluntness particularly with Doremi, and no longer sacrifices her own well-being for others' happiness. Her relationships are central: her deep bond with Doremi is trusting but occasionally strained; she shares a mutual understanding with the similarly mature Onpu Segawa; and initial friction with the easily frightened Momoko Asuka resolves into friendship. Her feelings for Masaru remain constant, navigating occasional jealousy or misunderstandings. Fujio of the wizard group FLAT4 expresses interest, which she does not reciprocate due to her attachment to Masaru.
In the light novel sequel set during high school, Hazuki attends Karen Girls' Academy as a violin student pursuing a professional music career. Her appearance matures slightly, featuring a ribbon instead of her childhood bow. She maintains her gentle, supportive nature but shows increased independence, balancing weekend work at the revived Maho-do with her studies. Her relationship with Masaru advances to private dating, leading to challenges like confronting rumors from a photograph taken near a love hotel; she resolves this by forgiving the jealous friend who spread the rumors. This phase shows her growth into a poised, occasionally high-strung teenager managing anxieties while nurturing ambitions and relationships.
Hazuki has an extreme phobia of ghosts, causing panic and calls for Majorika. She dislikes meat and cucumbers, aligning with her English dub depiction as a vegetarian. Unique traits include being the group's only regular glasses wearer, the sole musician specializing in a string instrument (violin), and later, the only member in an established romantic relationship. Her commitment to responsible magic use persists, culminating in the collective decision to relinquish witch status to avoid outliving ordinary humans, choosing instead to support Hana's future through non-magical means.
