Description
Midori Fujiyama is a supporting character from the 1976 anime series Dino Mech Gaiking. She serves as the communications officer on the bridge of the Daikū Maryū, the massive dragon-shaped carrier vessel that serves as the team's mobile base. In addition to her primary role handling communications and operations, she is also responsible for overseeing the launch sequence of the components that combine to form the super robot Gaiking. On occasion, she takes on active field duties by piloting one of the carrier's smaller scout craft for reconnaissance missions.

Midori is the adopted daughter of Dr. Daimonji, the scientist who created Gaiking and leads the fight against the alien Dark Horror Army. She is 17 years old and was raised among the human crew of the Daikū Maryū, but her true origins are revealed later in the series. Her birth name is Green, and she is an alien from the planet Pijon, a world that was destroyed when its sun collapsed into a black hole. She was brought to Earth at a very young age and has no memory of her home world for most of the story.

Her personality is defined by a quiet competence and a strong sense of duty to her team. She is calm under pressure in the command center and handles the technical demands of her station with skill. However, her sense of identity is tested when the truth of her alien heritage is uncovered. In one episode, she is kidnapped and brainwashed by enemy forces, forced to pilot a Dark Horror monster against her own allies, an experience that underscores her vulnerability. Later, when given the chance to leave Earth and join the surviving remnants of her own people, she initially wavers. She ultimately chooses to stay with the Daikū Maryū crew, reaffirming her loyalty to the family that raised her and her commitment to the fight against the Dark Horror Army.

Her key relationships center on her adoptive father, Dr. Daimonji, and the rest of the bridge crew, including the main protagonist Sanshiro Tsuwabuki, who pilots Gaiking. Her bond with Dr. Daimonji is one of deep familial attachment, and her decision to remain on Earth is a testament to that relationship. Within the team, she operates as a reliable and essential support member rather than a frontline combatant.

Midori's development across the series moves from a dutiful operator with a hidden past to a young woman who confronts that past and makes a conscious choice about where she belongs. Her notable abilities lie in her technical and operational skills, managing the communications and launch systems of a highly advanced vessel, and her capacity to handle reconnaissance missions when necessary. She does not pilot Gaiking herself but is indispensable to the coordination that allows the robot to function effectively in battle.
