Description
Xochitl hails from Latin America, likely Mexico, and is a member of the Aztec magic cabal "Return of the Winged One." She originally served as a non-combatant "Corpse Worker," retrieving information from the dead and performing funeral rites. This role instilled a profound aversion to violence and weaponry within her, born from witnessing the terror weapons inflict. Her strong reluctance to harm others defined her early personality, rendering her unsuitable for aggressive cabal duties.
During the Liberal Arts City incident, Xochitl joined her cabal's attack but defied orders by sparing Saten Ruiko and aiding Mikoto Misaka to resolve the conflict. This defiance resulted in severe punishment: forced merger with an original Aztec grimoire replaced over two-thirds of her body with artificial components. This transformation altered her physically and significantly influenced her behavior, blurring the line between her original will and the grimoire's influence.
Following her punishment, the cabal dispatched Xochitl to Academy City to eliminate Etzali, her defected senior. She infiltrated the dark-side organization MEMBER, which operated under Academy City's director, Aleister Crowley. MEMBER's leader, the Professor, knew her identity as a magician. During the Daihaseisai Festival, she adopted an Asian disguise, wearing a red and black sports jacket, sweatpants, and sneakers to blend in.
Xochitl's magic evolved drastically after the grimoire merger. Her original abilities focused on communicating with the dead and confirming final wishes. Post-transformation, she gained powers to manipulate weapons, forcing them to turn against their wielders—demonstrated when she killed fifty of BLOCK's mercenaries. She also wielded a "macuahuitl" (an Aztec obsidian sword) in combat and could steal faces by crafting masks from victims' skin, enabling identity concealment like Etzali. She exhibited "hammerspace"-like storage for items like her macuahuitl.
Her confrontation with Etzali occurred during MEMBER's operations against GROUP. After allowing GROUP members to proceed, she fought Etzali alone. During the battle, her weapon-manipulation magic nearly forced him to suicide with his obsidian knife; he dislocated his own arm to survive. However, her unfamiliarity with the macuahuitl's crushing mechanics—rather than slashing—led to her defeat. Etzali removed the draining grimoire to save her life, binding it to himself to bear its burden.
Post-recovery, Xochitl reappeared later, interacting more amiably with Etzali and using the term "Onii-chan" (big brother), indicating a partial return to her pre-grimoire demeanor. She expressed disapproval of his apparent interest in Mikoto Misaka, hinting at lingering concern for his loyalties.
