Description
Laura Marconi is the partner and close confidante of Ryo Saeba, the sweeper known as City Hunter. She takes on the role of his business manager and moral anchor, ensuring that their missions stay on track despite Ryo’s frequent lecherous distractions. Marconi is practical, level-headed, and quick to use her signature giant mallet to keep her partner in line, yet she also shows genuine care and loyalty toward him. Her motivation is rooted in a sense of duty inherited from her late brother Hideyuki, who was Ryo’s original partner; she stepped into the role to honor his memory and to protect the people of Shinjuku.

In the story of City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust, Marconi and Ryo are hired by a young woman named Angie to find her missing cat. Marconi eagerly takes charge of the search, treating it like any other legitimate request, while Ryo’s attention wanders. As the investigation unfolds, Marconi becomes increasingly aware that Angie is hiding secrets and that the case is connected to a dangerous nanomachine serum called Angel Dust Modified. She plays a key role in the action, including a moment where she fires a rocket launcher to topple an industrial tower during a confrontation with an assassin. Her involvement grounds the film in the everyday reality of the City Hunter partnership, contrasting with the darker revelations about Ryo’s past.

Marconi’s relationship with Ryo is central to the film. She trusts him implicitly but is often kept in the dark about the most dangerous parts of his history. In Angel Dust, she learns more about Ryo’s origins with the criminal organization Union Teope and his prior exposure to the original Angel Dust, which gives her a deeper understanding of his abilities and the burdens he carries. Her connection to Angie evolves from professional to compassionate, as she and the other women in their circle offer Angie moments of normalcy and friendship.

While Marconi does not possess superhuman physical traits, she is resourceful, determined, and unafraid to stand her ground in combat. Her greatest strength lies in her unshakable presence as Ryo’s partner, providing stability and emotional grounding even when the situation grows chaotic. Throughout the film, she serves as the audience’s anchor, representing the ordinary human heart of the City Hunter enterprise.
