Description
Nekomata, a black cat yo-kai from the Mononoke tribe, debuted in the 2018 film *Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends* and later appeared across related media. Achieving his status through longevity, he manifests three distinct forms: a Base Form (Rank C) resembling a standard cat yo-kai with black fur, white muzzle and paws, elongated ears, fluffy neck fur, and an orange talisman; a Transformation/Shadowside form (Rank A) featuring fox-like ears, coarse purple neck and wrist fur, scythe-shaped hitodama on twin tails, and a red waist sash; and a Godside Form (Rank S) marked by increased height, an Egyptian headdress, purple eyes, and ringed hitodama on enlarged tails.

Personality-wise, Nekomata embodies feline tendencies, prioritizing naps and savoring obanyaki. Though he frequently downplays his strength, he displays formidable combat prowess—defeating the immobilized Tamamo in one strike and overpowering Karasu Tengu effortlessly. His wind-based abilities include form-specific Soultimate moves: Base targets central foes, Transformation erases groups with tornadoes, and Godside annihilates large crowds instantly.

In *Forever Friends*, Shin summons Nekomata via the Yo-kai Watch Elder Zero. Initially dismissing himself as unremarkable during an interview—claiming sleep as his specialty—he unintentionally exposes Tamamo’s human disguise when she acknowledges him (impossible for ordinary humans). He later joins pivotal battles, defeating Tamamo at Mirror Pond with his Soultimate move. Against Karasu Tengu, he is swept into merged tornadoes, triggering his Shadowside transformation (Kaibyou Kamaitachi), where he briefly dominates before being overwhelmed. During the climax, Kenshin Amaterasu and the Yo-kai Watch Elder God empower him and allies, evolving him into his Godside Form (Neko'ou Bastet) to confront Shien.

Beyond the film, Nekomata appears in multiple games: *Yo-kai Watch 4* grants him as Jack’s guaranteed companion in Past Sakura Motomachi; spin-offs like *Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble*, *Yo-kai Watch: Medal Wars*, and *Yo-kai World* feature him with varying ranks and tribe affiliations (e.g., Charming tribe in *Wibble Wobble*, Brave tribe in *Medal Wars*). His design originated from a "Make-A-Nyan" contest selection. Naming conventions draw from mythology: "Nekomata" references Japanese folklore, "Kaibyou Kamaitachi" fuses "monster cat" with a wind-sickle yo-kai, and "Neko'ou Bastet" incorporates the Egyptian goddess Bastet.
